Is Robert Meachem worth 1st round pick yet? I always liked him, even in college so I am a little bias

Probably could have gotten the same production out of someone later in the draft, but who, at 27, are you taking that year, if not him?

You're biased towards him but you're questioning if he's worth a first round pick?

he scores a lot of TDs and isn't overpaid.... so I'd say I'm happy with the pick.

he blocks well and isn't primaddona so that helps.

yeah, looking at the picks after him.. it seems like the best choice...

Paul Poslusney? Eric Weddle? maybe...

But I like Meachem. I think as far as 1st round money.. no.. but as a serviceable WR.. . yeah, he is money.

I am glad we got him, but few my friends still think he wasn't worth 1st round

Here is the WR's that went after Meachem up to our next pick in 2007:

1st Round
#30 - Craig Davis - Chargers
#32 - Anthony Gonzales - Colts
2nd Round
#44 Sidney Rice - Vikings
#45 Dwyane Jarrett - Panthers
#51 Steve Smith - Giants

Would we have reached on Rice or Smith, not sure. Maybe?

Some notables that went between the Meachem pick and our 3rd round pick:

#36 Kevin Kolb - Eagles
#38 Zac Miller - Raiders
#46 LaMarr Woodley - Steelers
#63 Brandon Jackson - Packers

I bet the FO would have rather had a LB like Woodley instead of Meachem but hindsight is 20/20

When the Saints drafted Meachem they had originally targeted D.Bowe out of LSU. The cheifs selected Bowe a head of the Saints with the 23rd pick.It was then a hard choice out of either Meachem or Greg Olsen who was selected later in the first round by Chicago.

Meachems 40 yard dash at the combine made him to hard to pass up for the Saints.
