Trade back? Or trade up?

My gut is saying we trade back. Plenty of WRs and TEs to be had in the 2nd and beyond. I say we trade back from 27 to get more picks and continue to stack the roster with depth. If we go that route, by the time Brees is done, we can sign a vet QB as a stop gap and field a competitive team.

OR... we go this route-

This may be the year to trade up to get our future QB. The team is built to win NOW even before the draft. A bunch of guys coming back from the IR and some some great FA/trade moves have this roster loaded.

We have 8 picks? Trade some draft capital to go get a QB that Payton can groom behind Brees this year and maybe next.

What say the board?

I think they're open to both and will wait to see how the first 15 picks fall. I could see them going up for a QB if a guy they really likes reaches striking distance. Or, if all the guys they really like are gone at 27 (which seems really likely because I can make a shitty mock scenario easily), I could see them going back

Can you present a trade partner for either scenario?

Ok I’ll try... we can assume the Cardinals are eyeing a QB at 15. So the Redskins at 13 or the Packers at 14 could be partners to trade up. Maybe offer the 27th pick, a third (91) or a 4th (127) and a 2 or 3 in 2019? I know it seems like a lot but if you have your next franchise QB, it’s worth it.

As far as trading back, the Browns, colts and pats have multiple 2nd round picks. Maybe the colts offer one of their 2nds? (36) and a 4th? (104) and a 7th? (221).

Something like that? Just spit balling ideas

Trade back, but that’s not what the Saints do.

Possible trade partners would be Cleveland and the Colts, off the top of my head.

My guess is that if we do either...it will be to trade back.

I would agree to that if we take Mayfield!

I don't like the idea of giving away a potentially good draft to move up and snag a backup QB.

I think this is a good scenario for us, if possible. I think we would get slightly less compensation though.

If we don’t see anything reasonable to trade up for then take BPA at 27.

Regardless of what happens, I’ll accept what we do and have complete faith in Ireland/Loomis

My gut is telling me Rosen or mayfield will slide and I’ll take either in a heartbeat

Whatever we do, I'm sure it will work out. Ireland has been a boss. Everyone, myself inckuded, was so confused when we took injury prone Ram and then traded a second rd pick to move up in the 3rd for Kamara. Halfway through the season everyone forgot how pissed they were last draft.

Just hope a QB falls to our spot, even Lamar Jackson.

Then options will open up.

I know we always trade up and we did so last year with Ireland. Until otherwise proven that is what we should assume. That being said, they obviously trusted their board pretty well last year to take the players they did where they did. I can see a possibility that they trade back if they feel they have a decent shot at someone.

Unrelated, I have heard or read a few times that scouts feel draft falls off a bit after the first 100 players or so (per what I heard it is usually 130-150). I wonder how the saints feel about that and if that is where we see the movement.

I have more trust than I ever have in the front office.

Our Qb is 39 years old. Anyone we go up for won’t be a backup for long.

Will they be any good? Who's to say we don't draft an even better one after next season? We have an opportunity to add starters and quality backups for this season. Why would we waste this opportunity?

Because it’s not NEEDED? Would you say we are super bowl contenders today? Before the draft?

Realistically any team with both a 2nd and 3rd rd pick is a possible trade partner.

I think most likely situation where we trade back is a very good Offensive Line player slips to us at 27, and a team with an atrocious line trades us a 2nd and a 3rd for the pick.

Depending on their position, we may have to give them a 4th or a 5th rd pick with the 1st rd as well.
