This one. I was just sick the whole next day. It was the one time in my life I didn't even want to go hunting. I was convinced the Saints would NEVER make the playoffs.
"All that stood in the way of a first ever playoff appearance was the Los Angeles Rams. The winner would advance as a wildcard contender. The loser would stay home. Late in the fourth quarter, with a slim 24-23 lead the Saints found themselves facing fourth down inside the Rams 35 yard line. Instead of attempting a 49 yard FG, (with Morten Freakin Andersen!) Bum made the decision to punt it away. With the ball back, the Rams drove 55 yards and with 6 seconds left in the season, Mike Lansford hit a 42 yard score to win for the Rams. The Saints stayed home. Ironically, it was L.A.'s only offensive points of the game. Rams scores came on a safety, a punt return TD and 2 interceptions returned for scores (Thanks, Snake. Freaking Gump. Finished the year with 9 TDs and 18 picks). Ram QB Vince Ferragamo didn't even complete a pass until the last drive."
Thus the 1983 season ended. Never had the Saints been so close to post-season play.

Also like to add 1999 Saints Bears. If I remember correctly up 10-0 at the 2 minute warning and go on to lose 14-10
I remember that one. I was at work and distinctly remember kicking something when they lost that game. Good thing I had steel toe shoes on.

Wow. I've had so many of these over the years, I'm not sure that I could limit a list to just 5.
My first moment: 1967, the Saints blow a late 10 - 0 lead to the Pittsburgh Steelers and lose 14 - 10. After the game, I remember walking back to the car with my dad and him saying, "I hope this doesn't become a habit with these guys."
Most humiliating moment: 1977, watching the Tampa Bay Bucs get their first victory as Archie Manning throws 3 pick 6s in the second half.
Most nauseating moment: Atlanta season opener in 1979. This was coming off Big Ben and Grover Klemmer the year before. Game goes into OT and a bad snap forces Russell Erxleben to chase the ball down near the goal line and throw a pass that Atlanta picks off and scores on to win.
Next most nauseating moment: Later that same year, the Monday Night debacle with Oakland. I thought that I'd never see the Saints pull a bigger choke job until...
The biggest choke job to this day: 1980 at San Francisco. Just arived in the Bay Area to begin a tour of duty there with the Air Force. My sponsor at the base gets tix for the game and we watch as the Saints (0-13 at this point) look like a 13 - 0 team stomping all over the Niners in the first half for a 35 - 7 halftime lead. Then I watch in absolute horror as the Saints blow the lead and lose 38 - 35 in OT.
Biggest mood swing game: 1987 Wild Card playoffs. Saints jump out to an early 7 - 0 lead and the Dome is bedlam. Next thing we know, Anthony Carter takes a punt back for a TD and the landslide begins.
Obviously, there's other moments but I'll stop now before I end up needing therapy.

1. Losing to Atlanta in the playoffs 1991
2. Losing to Minnesota in the plaoffs 1987
3. In 1988 we were 9-3 and we blew our division lead & missed the playoffs by losing three staight games (Giants, Vikings, & 49ers)
4. Giving up 26 4th qtr points to Philly in 1992 playoff game
5. Morten Andersen kicking the winning field goal against the Saints in the Dome while playing for the Falcons

For me, 5 things I thought would always hurt, but now don't:
1. Katrina...I thought the Saints were gone forever
2. Losing Willie Roaf, La'Roi Glover, and Joe Johnson in 2001. My 3 favorite Saints at the time.
3. Losing our last 4 games in 2002 despite playing 4 of the worst teams in the league in that stretch. One win would have put us in the Playoffs.
4. Losing to Minnesota in 2000 and Chicago in 2006 after convincing myself that each year was finally our year.
5. All those stupid plays from Big Ben I and II to the missed XP to Aaron Brooks' backward pass to Eddie Kennison's uber suckage as a punt returner.

The 3 game stretch whenever the saints had to win one out of three games to make the playoffs and lost every single one with an injured Brooks while a healthy jake delhomme was on the sideline
