Too worried about a balanced offense.

Ok so I am all for having a balanced offense. But, does anyone else feel like sometimes we put a little too much focus on being balanced. I think sometimes we are, and we end up being stubborn and hurting our offensive production. In the game today, I realize that Brees had three picks, but I feel like that's because we would put ourselves in situations where Tampa knew we were going to throw. We would almost always run on first down, and then we would often run on second down for no gain or a loss. I mean I want the running game to be good, but when it's not working, we're just wasting plays. Tampa was stacking the box, and we still kept trying to run. Then at the end of the game we just started letting Drew sling it, and it was the best the offense moved the ball all day. I know it ended with a pick, but it was still the best offensive drive we had in my opinion. I just think that we need to use the passes to try to open up the run, rather than the other way around.

I agree... I just think our running game is very simple to defend because there is no variety. Straight up the middle and thats it... I would like to see more tosses and runs to the outside with Sproles. Maybe even some runs out of shotgun every now and then. But I definitely agree that we should use the passing game to open up the running game.

Every year there has ALWAYS been a game or two where the play calling is just ridiculously conservative.

Not sure if serious..

Drew had 45 attempts, RBs combined for I think 16 rushes.. That's a far cry from balanced.

We are doomed for turnovers when we are overly pass happy.

its cause weve been having to play from behind so of course we have to throw the ball more.

No not at all. If Brees is throwing the ball more than 45 times, that's not good. Us having no run game yesterday was more due to the fact that we ran the same play to middle of the line 10 times and didn't try anything else. It got stuffed every time and was a waste of a down.

I understand that Drew threw the ball a lot. What I'm saying is that I think that Drew throwing is clearly the strength of our offense yet we still try to start the game off with getting our running game going. This often results in us trying to run on almost every first down and the defense knows it's coming so they stuff us. Then they know we are going to throw on 2nd and 3rd down. I want a balanced offense I just think we should rely on our passing offense to get the run game going rather than the other way around. Tampa was playing the run hard on first down and stacking the box, and we were playing right into their hands forcing long 2nd and third downs. When we look for the short pass on first down I feel like we pick up about six or seven yards almost every time giving us a lot more options for 2nd and 3rd down, and keeping the defense off balance. They seemed to know what we were doing all day yesterday.

you have to run regardless if the team knows what you are doing are not....Ask the Raiders....we have to impose our will with the running game, win the line of scrimmage and we are even deadlier

You can not set up the run with the pass it does not work..

First of all, I would like to see us stick with a RB for an entire series or two. Let a guy get some rhythm. I hate that we just rotate guys in and out...I don't think the RB position works like that.

Second, I would like to see us vary the running plays: counters, sweeps, dives, up the middle, off tackle, draws. It seems like our running offense is incredibly basic as opposed to our passing game that is incredibly complex.

We need to stick with it. We also need to play better in the first half.

exactly what RB will be successful if you dick him around all game...we have 3RB's in my opinion that can do it all but just isn't given the chance to do so..

Sorry man I have to disagree. You're telling me if we consistently get yards with the short passes that the defense won't start playing more to defend the pass? Then when they start to have their linebackers back off to defend the pass, we hit them with the run. It works both ways in my opinion. It just seemed like Tampa always knew when we were going to run and we just did it anyway, resulting in a good amount of no gains or losses. If a team is playing to stop the run, call a pass play and Drew will eat them alive, especially on short passes, he will put them on the money.
