Figured I would get this started bc I love draft talk. I understand projections will change after the combine and needs will depend on how I roster shakes up at that time. However, secondary would look like a good spot to upgrade with aging and expensive janoris Jenkins and Latt not resigned yet.

Jaycee Horn
How cool would it be to get Joe Horn’s son Jaysee Horn. He is argued as the best press man corner in the draft and it was said last offseason that we wanted to run more press man. He is currently projected to get picked a little bit higher than our pick and after the combine it is possible that he becomes unreachable but he would be a perfect fit if we can get him. Could even be worth a trade up.

Trevon Moehrig
We love safeties and we love versatility. This guy can play any safety position. Can take over Marcus Williams role as a deep safety if he walks or can take over for aGing malcolm Jenkins when he leaves.

I don’t think there will be a qb here worth taking. Outside of the above two guys I would add a weapon like Terrace Marshall or continue you to bulk the offensive line if there are no other good options.

I have seen mocks with Zaven Collins and Nick Bolten. Wouldn’t mind Bolten as he seems to fit as the type of backer we need. Think we can probably add a a good backer in the 2nd though and hoping Baun breaks out next year. Would love to keep Kwon but not sure that we can afford him

Just found out yesterday he went to the same high school as my kids.

We just moved here in August so we didn't know the school's history.

Pretty cool.

I really like Moehrig even before Kiper mocked him to us. Think he will be an elite safety and can play at any safety position in our defense. As a team that uses 3 he is very valuable to us.

Way too early, but some players I’ll be watching through the draft process:

Patrick Surtain II, CB alabama
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB Notre Dame
Tyson Campbell, CB UGA
Jaycee Horn, CB USCe
Azeez Ojulari LB, UGA
Micah Parson, LB Penn State
Zaven Collins, LB Tulsa
Nick Bolton, LB Mizzou
Rodarius Williams, CB Oklahoma State

There are also about a dozen OT and Guards I wouldn’t mind us getting either, but that means we can probably grab one of them in the second if they slide.

The positions we shouldn’t use our first on
RB
QB (unless one falls far)
DT

Positions we should want to improve w 1st
WR
LB
DE

Position we should want for depth/future
CB
S
OL
DT

Some of this depends on who we re-sign...

I'm never mad at DB or OL picks. We could definitely use both. Horn had a good career with the gamecocks.

I agree with this. I feel like this draft loaded at like that second tier offensive line load. You got Penei Sewell as ultra elite top tackle then you have a ton of guys at the end of first to 2nd round range that look solid. Kind of feel like Sewell is just in a league of his own in this draft. Last year you had about 4 guys in that tier and then it thinnedout. With developmental projects

By the time goodell is done we will be lucky to have any picks left
What goodell should be doing is thanking the players for getting through the season

I’m all in the Terrace Marshall Train unless he freaks it up.

Would love Marshall. We need to get an LSU WR

But besides QB of course, I think our main needs are WR, DE, LB, and DB.

OL in the 2nd or 3rd would be good too.

Why would we need a WR? We have Thomas, Sanders, Harris, Callaway and Smith. Not to mention Lil’Jordan.

Our bigger issues will be CB, LBer and OL. Maybe DL and S.

WR isn’t a bad move. You likely will lose Sanders soon. WR is loaded at the top of this draft. With Brees leaving you need to surround your next qb with weapons. If Sanders leaves there is a big gap between MT and your next best receiver. There is also no sure thing that MT doesn’t get traded. Harris is kind of a deep threat/gadget guy. Calloway looked good but we still don’t know what we got there. Both of those guys were injury plagued last season. Tre’Quan is a decent 3rd or 4th receiver but his contract is coming up and isn’t a world beater by no means. You are also losing Cook who was a big part of your passing game last year.

I think Terrace Marshall will be a steal. He is a speed/size mismatch freak and the kind of guy that Payton likes. I wouldn’t mind drafting him one bit. Wouldn’t be surprised if he slides up boards after the combine though.
