last year's #24 Bryant:
five-year, $11.8 million contract. The deal contains $8.63 million guaranteed, including a $1.95 million signing bonus and a $570,000 first-year roster bonus. Another $3.185 million is available through a "likely to be earned" onetime incentive clause. 2011: $1,112,500, 2012: $1,335,000, 2013: $1,557,500, 2014: $1.78 million
---and everyone sez they're gonna bump the rookie salary scale significantly with a new cba
Foster btw $395,000 in 2010, free agent now

And last year of the top 14 rushers 9 were first round picks.
You don't say!
We definitely need a pass rusher. We actually have one though, his name is slim WIll Smith. We won a SB with him as our best pass rusher.
There were 20 guys with 10+ sacks this year. Let me introduce you to half of them.
Cameron Wake- Undrafted
Justin Tuck- 3rd rd
Charles Johnson- 3rd rd
Robert Mathis 5th Rd
Chris Clemons- Undrafted
Shaun Phillips- 4th rd
Jared Allen- 4th rd
James Hall- Undrafted
James Harrison- Undrafted
Trent Cole- 5th rd
In case you can't see the trend, they were all drafted after the 3rd round. And had over 10 sacks. Which means there is talent at the bottom of the draft!!!
Out of your top 20 RBs in rushing, 8 went after the third round. 11 went in the 1st round.
Arian Foster- Undrafted
Michael Turner- 5th round
Jamal Charles- 3rd rd
Ahmad Bradshaw- 7th rd
Peyton Hillis- 7th rd
BJGE- Undrafted
Lagarrette Blount- Undrafted
Fred Jackson- Undrafted
So.....

He was also a big name and supposed to be a top 10 talent. And was drafted by the Cowboys. The year before, Peria Jerry got 5 years $10.3 million

Signed a five-year, $10.35 million contract. The deal includes $7.55 million guaranteed. Another $2.9 million is available through incentives. 2011: $695,000, 2012: $845,000, 2013: $905,000, 2014: Free Agent
We do need a pass rusher and LB. But if there isn't one that fits our needs, then we could use a guy like Ingram. First round picks get paid regardless.

not in the first round.
If he is available in the first round for us, I think we should absolutely take him.
We made things way too hard on Brees this year with no running game. Having a workhorse back who can get both get tough yards and make a team pay in the open field would be a huge boost to this offense.
I don't know if he is a good receiver, but he is a great screen RB. I think he fits and is worthy of a first round pick.

make it stop
Bottom line...we DO NOT get to the qb...AT ALL...getting to the qb will make us a SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER team all around and help the offense run out games.
I would think we will go RBBC regardless of who we have on the roster so I would not think that Ingram would be a priority.

I was talking about yearly salary.
You are going to pay anyone drafted in that slot the same amount of guaranteed money. I am trying to dispel the notion that 1st round RBs cost an insane amount of money. No one is expensive that late in the draft
Mark Ingram at 24 isnt going to cost us 8 million against the cap per year.
his yearly salary will be in teh 1.5 mil range, which is a great rate for a RB.
would you rather risk looking for a guy as a UDFA that may not pan out or grab a sure thing like Ingram at a nice price?
for every Arian Foster there are tons of RB's that you never hear from after college.

It would be sweet if he fell to us in the second.

Personally, I think we have our power runner in ivory. We need a pass rusher LB the most imo
