With all the talk about possibly letting bush go does that change the ones who do not want him/think we need him minds? If he falls what do yall think? Like I said sorry for ANOTHER Ingram thread. I know saints fans are 50/50 on this. I want to hear from the half that say do not take him.

I like ingram...but the saints dont need him..we got Ivory..so i think we need to go after a linebacker or a defensive lineman..and get a running back in the later round...i really want the saints to get kelvin sheppard in the 2nd round though

We've got RBs who if they stay healthy are good enough starters.

We've got OLB who when healthy aren't good enough to be starters IMO.

RBs come easy, cheap, and effective in late rounds.

Athletic edge pass rushers, DE or OLB, who are also good in space and against the run are worth their weight in gold. Hell they don't have to be that good against the run if they are elite pass rushers.

This. Let somebody else use a first round pick on Ingram.

I would take Ingram in the first. I disagree with the "cheap" RB comments. Things got thin at RB for us very quickly last year. Im not confident in Pierre's health or his contract certainty.

If he is there at 24 they will probably get a rash of phone calls about trading the pick. I wouldn't be upset if they pulled the trigger on him, but I would rather them trade out of it for more picks.

What do you disagree with? There were 17 RB's last year with over 1000 rushing yards. 6 first round picks, 4 2nd rounders, 7 3rd round or later.

5 of those 7 were drafted in the 7th round or were undrafted.

The top 3 RB's last year

Arian Foster-undrafted
Jamaal Charles-3rd round
Michael Turner-5th round

That is a health issue not a talent issue. We've got a first round RB that has trouble staying healthy too. Anyone we draft could get hurt. Ricky Williams was healthy as can be @ UT, drafted by the Saints and he played one full season for us.

Until he can stay on the field for more than a 3 game stretch we'll see about that.
I really like Ingram FWIW

Ingram will not last until Saints pick, Saints would have to move up to get him but I think Saints address defensive front seven in 1st round - they have to.

You can get a RB later in draft and Bush, Thomas, Hamilton, Ivory are good enough. Too many injuries last year.

I'm on the fence, because I think we could do better for the overall team in getting a pass rusher at that slot. I do disagree with the posters who keep stating that RB is not a need, or that we have all we need from undrafted players. If the offense can be good with mediocre backs, I think it can be much better with true threats. This is sorta like saying we were doing fine with scrubs at TE, so don't get Shockey a couple years ago. Yet Shockey helped us take the next spot, and we went and drafted another TE in Graham to keep it moving. Brees' INTs went up last year from having to carry the team too much, and with a legit back I think we explode on offense.

We don't have forever with Brees at QB, so I think putting the best players around him for 1-2 more runs is a priority. Either thru draft, or by getting a legit back thru FA or trade.

I really do not to be honest. I think this team needs much work to be elite. I am also kinda on the fence like someone said. I think if he is the BPA get him. I do not want to take a player of need like OLB or rush DE and them not pan out. I would rather take the BPA and if that is mark then get him and start him.

he's a nice player...however we need significant upgrades to our front 7 on D. How many superbowl champions over the past 10 years or so have had a stud feature back?

I'd be cool with drafting Ingram.

That's the thing with these guys, they're ALWAYS injured. I like all of them, and we would have solid RB depth if they could stay healthy, but none of them can. Everyone wants to pat ourselves on our backs for getting good RBs that go undrafted, but there's a reason these guys go undrafted. Pierre has been hurt since early in his career at Illinois, and both Ivory and Hamilton suffered major injuries in college that are carrying over the the pros.

as a bama fan and a saints fan, i love mark i.... but his knee injury 5 days before the first game was MUCH MORE SERIOUS than bama let on..... he finally got healthy by the bowl game and looked great. however, he got hurt again in the second half, limped off, and never played again. he is starting to LOOK injury prone...

Bush needs to be moved to slot receiver, and we need to work the later rounds and FA for running backs.

Brees and Payton can work with anything on the offensive end, barring freak injuries to all of our 17 running backs.

Our secondary is good and will only get better. We need serious help out the linebacking position and a monster DE (if not a Hybrid type, ah la DeMarcus Ware-esk). I'd be surprised if we draft offense with our first pick.

Everyone is freaking out about the RB position. While I do agree we need stability and consistency health-wise at the position, last year was a freak occurrence with all those injuries, not to mention Brees was playing through an injury half the season (an injury that took Cutler completely out of a playoff game).

We will bounce back and be fine.

The Saints are way strong on BPA. It'll just depend on how they rank him. On big boards the high end for him would be #12-18 range. If they grade him there, the scenario where he could be the BPA is easier to process. I think the majority of boards would have him in the #19-25 range (what I'd grade him). If he's graded in that lower tier, it's hard for me to imagine not having a front 7 defense guy graded higher still on the board.

Another major need factor is LT. We have no real idea if Charles Brown could be ready to step up as a LT starter or if he's far from ready. If he isn't, then a starter ready LT could be a serious consideration (as that's another deep position in this draft).

Beyond grade I think it isn't very probable he'll be available. He's prolly the most commonly mocked player to Miami. He could also work for NE, NYG, & Indy.

Here's a wrench...

Mikel Leshoure could be picked ahead of Ingram. In '99 most everyone had Ricky Williams as the top RB. Indy didn't and chose Edgerrin James before him. It's not the top of the draft but similarly Ingram is no ironclad best choice.
