"There was no foul on the play"

If the ref was unsure, why not just throw the flag anyway? He can always pick it up and say there was no foul after conferring. If he doesn't throw the flag, there is nothing that can be done.

Because they didn’t want there to be a foul in the play.

EVERYTHING SHOULD BE REVIEWABLE!!! especially helmet to face, I thought the NFL wanted to help protect the players I guess only from big markets.

The Refs decided at the beginning of the 4th Q that there would be no further enforcement of the Defensive PI rule for the Saints.
Once past the 2 minute warning and the Defensive PI rules presented the Saints with the ball at the 1 with 1st and Goal, the Refs decided that there could be no enforcement at all of that rule.
We will always be left only to speculate as to the reason why this intentional decision was made.
The Refs tried to hide their determination throughout the 4th Q, but, when the decisive moment came, they had to act, even if their effort could no longer be called covert. They committed an overt act of omission, and, it is quite obvious AND unprecedented in a game of this magnitude.
We are all left only with reason to speculate. There will never be any substantive review or inquiry into the matter whatsoever by the NFL. So what if one guy gets fired? That's just a scapegoat.

Refs knew exactly what they were doing. They never wanted to throw a flag no matter what. They wanted LA to win, and they and the NFL can all of a sudden rejoice now. it's just bull shite we actually suffer from garbage that should not have happened.
