With out a new deal that isnt on the table you could see the end of free agency. The owners want no cap which means you cant be a free agent until your 6th year.Well there is the rub most players are considered old or too injured by the start of there 7th season.

I will shite a brick if we get rid of Court... best special teams player in the league IMO... was huge in the playoffs.

i will shite a brick if Roby AND Thomas are gone! Thomas is a hoss. as for the whole Roman Harper arguement, if u dont think he improved and was one of the better safeties in the NFC than u r an idiot. I wouldnt give him up for a 2nd especially if we get a 2nd for Brown and a 3rd or even 4th from for Lance Moore.

A few random thoughts:
Bush has to restructure or he's done. The team can't pay him $8 mill and have their full time RB (P. Thomas) earning a third, or even half, of that amount.
Grant is history. He never lived up to the big contract and was out performed by guys who we picked up off the street...that's not a good thing.
J. Brown will be traded for some decent draft picks. The team can't sign Brown and Bushrod; LTs are a hot commodity and will demand a significant amount of money. The team goes with Bushrod.
J. Evans will get the highest tender offer and teams will not be turned off by that; this means the team will have to decide to take the 1st and 3rd picks, or commit to another big money contract. Evans presents the biggest decision for the Front Office.
Lance Moore will be tendered at a level that will find a number of window shoppers. My guess is that the team isn't willing to pay him what he thinks he's worth. That 2 point conversion catch could be worth a few million $$$$ to him...just not from the Saints.
Sharper will be back. Expect a 3 year $15 mill deal ($4 mill in 2010, $5 mill in 2011, and $6 mill in 2012) with $7 mill guaranteed (that's about the cost of a 1 year franchise tag).
The bottom line is that we have too many players that have contracts to deal with. As others have stated, the Super Bowl ring will cost the team more than the cost of the actual ring; teams like the Lions, Browns, Raiders, and Buccaneers, will want to bring in former Saints to instill that "can do" attitude and a number of NFC teams will raid the Saints in an attempt to deplete the talent...this comes with the new territory we find ourselves in.

Agree with most you said. Am most nervous about Evans. I think the Saints will want to keep the O-line intact for next year. I wonder what teams will want to give up for Moore and Brown since they played little to none last year due to injuries. Very true though that several teams are looking for left tackle help this year. I think thursday is the franchise tag deadline?

You have to remember how last season ended. I think Porter was the only guy most people thought for sure would be a solid starter. No one knew what to think of Greer and many people thought Sharper didn't have much left in the tank and Jenkins would be starting at FS by mid season. And while people hoped Harper would rebound in a new system, he blew enough plays the year before that we weren't sure if he was a long term fit at SS either. Greer and Sharper exceeding expectations made us over draft in a sense and that turned one of last year's biggest weaknesses into one of this year's biggest strengths.
Well said and directly on point.
If someone wants Harper and we can pick up a 2nd rounder, there's a real possibility that he's gone. The only thing that complicates this situation is that U. Young may be on his way out. Harper isn't good in coverage but he's better than Young. As for run stopping, there's no comparison.
It's time for the experiment with Young to come to a close. That Garcon' TD brought back nightmares of Bullock.

agree that UY may not be around next year. Didja catch the mic'd up Payton? On the play where UY went in he looked at the alignment and said "He's going to throw it on Young."
I'd be happy for a fresh 2nd for Harper.

Streif: original pick compensation (4th IIRC)
Strief was a 7th round pick. Team needs more than that for this guy. He has played well when he's been on the field.

i dont think people know how rare it is that teams sign players and end up giving compensation
people keep getting caught up in this, its likely not to happen to any player unless a team has multiple early round picks and a spot to fill in their starting lineup. the stars really have to align

What we learned from last year is have plenty of DBs and Ss because they can get hurt and some teams use 5 wide outs.
