should we be upset with payton for deciding to retire on a whim?

I understand what he did for the organization and even what he did for the state post katrina. But on a random day after most other organizations have basically hired their new coaches/assistants, he announces his retirement. Obviously this wasn't a major factor on the HC side with DA being the hire, but it just feels like we were super late to the assistant hire party when it feels like this could have been avoided if the retirement was announced earlier.

I don’t think it was a whim. At least not to Mickey or Gail. I’m pretty sure they’ve been talking about the possibility for a few years. Just because we didn’t know doesn’t mean he just woke up one day and said “I’m out.”

its simple, he wanted to give it one more year and the thot he married said no
im 100% certain if he knew he was done he would have announced it the day off or at least the monday after the last game
pussy is still undefeated

He didn’t retire. He’s taking time off. He will be like his mentor Bill Parcells and coach two more teams before actually retiring.

Should people be pissed if you suddenly decided to retire? That should be your business and no one else's I'd assume?
I really don't get the hate. Just because we are fans of the team doesn't mean he's beholden to us for anything IMO. At the end of the day, it's a job for him just like whatever we do for a living is a job for us.

I don't think they have been talking about it for years.
Payton said he didn't even think about it until drew was gone.
Payton also said he wanted to announce it earlier but gayle told him to take a week or two to think about it.
He laughed because the cowboys lost in the playoffs and he announced right after.

Or just maybe it was planned that way. Basically made sure DA was the best candidate left!
