Should the Saints extend Davenport before the season?

Davenport has been a game changer when he’s been on the field. The issue has always been him staying on the field. His value isn’t going to be very high because of all his injuries. But if he was to play a full season this year his value would skyrocket. Should they go ahead and extend him now for a fairly low price or wait to see how the season plays out?

I personally think they should extend him now because his value isn’t really going to get any lower. If he plays a full season his value will skyrocket. You aren’t going to have to pay a hefty price either if you get it done now.

We tried to but he sprained his wrist trying to sign the contract. Out 2-3 week

That’s assuming Davenport isn’t saying “screw signing a new contract. I’m going to ball out this year and sign a hefty one after the year”

Are you talking about the same Davenport that cut half his finger off and said that his shoulders hurt so bad?

(I'm going off memory but none of it was a good look and not someone you want to sign for a long term deal)

Davenport strikes me as a player the Saints will not resign and he goes elsewhere and becomes all pro. Just a bad feeling about him.

Then why would you sign?

This is correct. I think the Saints would love to sign him now to a moderate contract but Davenport would be foolish to, unless he completely distrusts his body to hold up this year.

I’d make him a nice offer. He’s saved himself pretty well. He should have a lot of great football left in him.

I am sure they will make an offer to extend (may have already done so), but I think it would be wise for Davenport to gamble and bet on himself. Whatever the Saints offer, he most likely will be able to get on the open market if he it's his 12 game average; unless he has some freakish injury.
