Just an outsiders perspective

Well I just want to tell you that your perspective is wrong. This year the offense hasn't been nowhere near as productive as we have seen in the past few seasons.

Usually the offense leads or is right at the top in 3rd conversions, redzone offense & time of possession. Those are three key areas this season that have not been up to par as they have been under a Payton coached offense.

This year's offense has failed to play complimentary to the defense. Winning time of possession, converting 3rd down & scoring in the redzone means the defense is off the field more & gives them more breathing room to work with. The 2nd game against the Falcons was a perfect example of how inept the offense has been in those situations this season. With Payton on board this season as offensive game planner & play caller, the offense continues to chug along. I can envision 3 or 4 loses at this point of the season with Payton. No way in hell would it be 8.

Just keep thinking this team is on downward trend. Its going to be even sweeter blowing the doors off Atlanta with Payton back on the sidelines next season.

Offenses problem was the defense putting them in bad situations.

Earlier in the year, that was true to an extent, but even then the play calling was poor, the run game was non-existent, and the pass protection was horrible. The defense started playing much better, and then the offense turned into a turn over machine.

With SP they win the GB game at Lambeau, sweep ATL and probably take KC at home.

I see three and playoffs with SP.

Payton isn't going anywhere! He knows his secret to success is drew. Now that they cancelled his contract I would go back and offer half of what the original was if I was benson. If u want to make the saints beter hire a new GM with the other half. Vince Lombardi himself couldn't coach this defense.

Exactly. Even early on the season, when the defense made stops & gave the opportunity to take the lead or put a team away, the offense spuddered. They have been consistently inconsistent all year long while the defense has slowly been on an upward trend as the season has progressed. While lately the defense has given the offense several opportunities per game to take control of games, the offense has been unable to do so which is in stark contrast of how the offense has been under Payton.

With Payton on the sidelines calling plays, when he smelled blood, he went for the kill & stepped on the opposition's throat. What is being missed most this season is Payton's ability to put his offensive players in matchups that highly favor his players. Carmichael hasn't come close to being able to duplicate that aspect of Payton's game planning & play calling.

The inability to score touchdowns in the redzone like seasons past along with not being able to sustain drives with 3rd down conversions has killed the team this season. Not to mention, they've gotten their arse kicked in time of possession every week which is something we never saw with Payton conducting the offense.

Losing time of possession has meant having the defense exposed to more minutes & more plays on the field. Even a stout defense would have problems giving up yardage & points with having to be on the field as much as this year's Saints defense has.

I'm willing to bet that if Gregg Williams defense's from '09-'11 would have played opposite of a Saints offense that played as poorly as this year's squad has, we would seen those defenses give up similar numbers in yardage & points.

Please go away & post less. You bring nothing insightful to this discussion. Instead you just come with the same "tard" babble that this board tends to get overrun with too often as is. TIA
