Dude clearly was just sick of NO and wanted out, but the "year off for family" bit is a much more palatable way to do so, than to just straight up demand a trade.
The Gruden trade hauled the Raiders 2 firsts and 2 seconds, plus $8 million cash. If Mickey settles for anything less than 3 firsts and 3 seconds it should be met with an enormous amount of scrutiny and suspicion that he's taking care of his friend instead of the team.
