You mean this year?
In talking in general about the last few offseasons where the organization hasn't had much available cap space to spend on free agents.

I'm probably not getting this right but it just feels like the Saints have concentrated way too hard on character when it comes to drafting lately.
Not saying that that's not important but I think you can still find real talented players who aren't pieces of shite but may not have been an eagle scout. You know?

I think over half our picks were team captains .

The way that Teddy Bridgewater and Jaimes Winston are still talked about on this board are nothing short of revisionist history and nonsense.

It has put us behind for years.
I don't know if he has to be "for years". The Redskins (I'm not calling them the Commanders) were kind of in the same mediocre rut for several years until bottoming out in 2023. They get the #2 pick, change the coaching staff (and owner and GM). The result was landing a franchise QB and going from 4-13 to 12-5 and the NFCCG in one season.
The Saints aren't there yet, but for the first time in forever it appears they will go into a season with decent cap space to spend along with draft picks. Now, it will take the FO making smart moves with those assets (something that very much is a concern), but it can be done.
