In this week's Power Rankings, ESPN has the Colts ranked 1st and the Saints ranked 2nd. Last week Sports Illustrated had the Saints ranked 1st, and the Colts 3rd.

I decided to look at some numbers, and this is what I came up with...

The Saints are averaging 19.8 points per margin of victory, and their opponents have a combined record of 14-15 (.482).

The Colts are averaging 13.2 points per margin of victory, and their opponents have a combined record of 10-18 (.357).

** also, the Saints have never trailed in a game, and have not beaten a team by less than 14 points**

So despite these statistics, and the fact that the beloved Peyton Manning is ranked below Drew Brees in QB rating, and that the Saints have the higher-ranked offense, ESPN still thinks that the Colts are a better team than the Saints.

I find it humorous, and I am grateful that the NFL has a playoff system, rather than anointing the NFL champion based on the Media's vote. By watching both teams play and looking at factual statistical data, there is no reason the Colts should be ranked above the Saints, other than they love to live on the Manning bandwagon.

I could care less if ESPN had the Saints ranked 1st or 32nd, I'd still wear my Saints shirt proudly, and still chant...

WHO DAT?!

I could care less as well but the fact that Indy almost lost to Miami and Jacksonville really should be put in to play. Saints haven't won a game by less than 14 yet IMHO i don't see what they base this on and it's probably based on their biased opinions

I've heard the term, "historically"... but that's just a bullshite excuse to downplay what the Saints have accomplished this year.

If "historically" was relevant, then the 49ers should be atop the Power Rankings as well...

I’m on record as saying the New Orleans Saints are the best team in the NFL right now. But the four guys who do our ESPN.com power rankings don’t quite agree.

They rank New Orleans No. 2, just behind the Indianapolis Colts. I’ve got to give Jeff Chadiha and Matt Williamson lots of credit for voting the Saints in the top spot.

Mike Sando and John Clayton did not. Sando voted the Saints No. 2 and Clayton had them No. 3. Just a thought here and I’m not ordering you to do anything, but if Saints fans would like to vent, I’m certain Sando and Clayton would love to hear from you in their mailbags.

dude you're telling me thats why I felt the need to point out how fricking stupid these guys are. To my understanding these power rankings are supposed to be mostly based on what the teams have done THIS year, and we have showed more than the Colts imo.

Jacksonville got blown out by the Seahawks, so the Eagles losing to the Raiders is a mute point.

But I see what you're doing, the same thing we're all doing - trying to understand some sort of reasoning behind these dumbasses at ESPN...

Why do so many Saints fan have an issue if someone thinks the Colts are a better team and ranks them #1?

I have never seen so much bitching about a poll that means nothing. About respect? Hell when they don't mention Saints you bitch, when they do you call them band wagon, no one can win but fans still like to bitch and moan.

As of right now Saints are a playoff lock, that is the most important thing. Once playoffs start anything can happen (see Arizona) so no point bitching unless Saints really get screwed out of play, game, or official.

Not so fast Hombre, let's not forget 2002 when we went 6-1 only to win 3 more games ending the season 9-7 and missing the playoffs. We were supposebly a lock then as well. We just need to win and get homefield advantage throughout the playoffs and let our 12th man help this team win it all.

If they had valid reasoning i'm all for it, but what makes the Colts better than the saints whenever they have 2 close wins against Jacksonville and Miami, games they won by a combimed 6 points. The Saints opponents combined to go 14-15, while the colts opponents record is 10-18, all the while the saints haven't won by less than 2 TD's and the colts sweated out their first two games. So tell me, why should the colts be ahead of the saints gummy bears? In your best unbiased answer?

And love your quotes by the way.......

quote:

Go Colts, best team in NFL...

quote:

Go Colts, best team in the NFL with the best player

quote:

Not everyone believes the Saints are the greatest team in the history of the NFL like some one this board....

Honestly, if i weren't a saints or colts fan, my unbiased opinion would be that if the saints were to play the colts this weekend, the saints would win by atleast 2 TD's. New York Giants > Indianapolis Colts........ Why don't you go somewhere else and flame you f@ggot...... Oh and BTW, the only people who think the colts are better than the saints are the 2 guys who vote for the power rankings on ESPN and the state of indiana. Hell, even the AFC south blogger on ESPN picked the saints over the colts, atleast he knows what he's talking about.
