I can't argue with the Saints success this year, but both picks on Stafford were due to poor throws by him (and receiver falling down for one, and throwing into triple coverage due to desperation)

The pressure from the blitz, on the first pic, made him throw the ball early and not get enough on it. Thats why it was under thrown making the receiver slip trying to come back to it and in turn Jabari got a gimme pic.

But see what you wanna see

Aside from the 4 fricking linebackers in that equation

We don't need 4 fricking linebackers idiot. Dunbar and Vilma at middle. Junior and Wilson on the outside. We would finally be able to get pressure. And don't say it wouldn't work. It worked wonders for the Texans

Has any team in the salary cap era ever had a dominant offense with a top 5 defense? Is it even possible to pay the personnel require for this awesome defense people are expecting without taking away from our unstoppable offense?

You don't need a D full of probowl studs to be good. Smart drafting, developing young talent, and signing key free agents (not Will Herring) would do wonders. And then having a coach who can scheme properly to make all the pieces work

edit: kind of like how we built our offense

How is that not what happened? Are you blind? Did you not see Stafford throwing that ball up off his backfoot?

I saw a receiver and CB running stride for stride. The receiver falling down and Greer catching the ball basically in stride after making a slight turn.

Please...Stafford stayed clean in the pocket all game. The blitzes did nothing but isolate our DB's

The problem isnt GW. for years we were bitching about blah read and react defenses with little/no creativity.

GW mixes it up better than anyone else. Its not GWs fault we lose two firsts to trade up for a RB when we're already stacked on offense.

Its not GWs fault our D-line cant beat the one-on-one matchups with the guys in front of him.

Look at the draft under Payton. Offense is clearly a priority. The talent on this team reflects that.

Question: If Gregg Williams takes the Dolphins job, do you think it would be because Payton and Loomis want to go in a different direction with the D? What reason would someone leave a championship team for the Dolphins? I guess the answer could be money, but I don't see how Williams' salary would increase by that much.

Ha, Will Smith got pressure right up the middle and lit up Stafford.

Keep Trying though

Stafford was nailed as soon as he threw the ball on the 1st int. I'm not sure how you wouldn't see that

I'm not going to say "link" but I'm looking all over for some kind of replay and can't find it. If I am wrong, I'll own up to it, but all I recall is the ball having more than enough air and the receiver falling down

and while the d may not be forcing turnovers I think these notes from Jeff Duncan last week are things people just gloss over when they are busy crying about how terrible our defense is

quote:

Defensively, the Saints excel on third down as well. They have held opponents to a 32.2% conversion rate, good for fifth in the league. Only the Cardinals, Ravens, Lions and Jets have been better.

quote:

According to team calculations, each differential of three third downs is roughly equal to a takeaway. Accordingly, their 51 differential rate in third-down conversions equals 17 turnovers. So while the Saints defense has not forced as many turnovers as the 2009 unit, they are having a similar impact in time of possession because of their success in stopping opponents on third down. The Saints rank second in the league in time of possession, owning the ball for an average of 31.46 minutes per game.

I seen that too. Although, You seemed to miss the blitz and Will Smith looping around Rogers and getting a free lane up the middle and Putting a hit on Stafford when he was delivering the ball.

But trust me that had nothing to do with him underthrowing the ball

I guess so. And everything I have read this morning says nothing about any pressure. Only Stafford heaving it deep

The receiver fell down, so who really knows. It was an easy pick for Greer. Now the second pick was a thing of beauty!
