There is no rule saying you have to have a head coach by a certain time. It's in the Saints best interest to not name a head coach for as long as they can, especially if it is an outside hire. If the NFL doesn't know who we are going to hire, then they can't keep Sean from talking to that guy. So keep it under wraps for awhile, let Sean and this new guy go over everything that Sean likes, then announce it to the NFL. As soon as we name a HC we are cutting off Payton from talking to him

But they can keep him from discussing the candidate with the rest of assistants and Loomis.

We should decide soon.

They can decide this week, just don't announce it until they get the whole team together for the first time.

Completely agree although I think the communication lines will be open during the season some how. You really think that the NFL is going to monitor all phone calls made to Payton? Would that even be legal if he weren't a Saints employee? I'm sure that the league would threaten further suspension if he didn't turn over the phone records but get a pay as you go phone. If it works in the Fisher P, Coach P can make it happen from the Northshore

good point. we may hear something soon. Initially, I was for Carmicheal. Now im leaning towards someone on the outside. Not that I dont thihk Carmicheal cant do it, but I agree with some of the other posters that being oc/hc is probably a little too much for his plate. Having to deal with the press, and making some roster decisions. What a surreal time we are in.

Is trying to "beat the system" really want the Saints as an organization REALLY want to try right now?

People on TD keep whining that Goodell has it out for the Saints. Well, pull this type crap and you'll end up being proven right.

the saint's FO better handle that situation carefully... IF Carmichael wants the job, and feels like he got shafted, then he might be more likely to bolt for another job..

Wheres he gonna go now? He'll build up his resume as Brees' OC for a year or two more than leave anyway. Just like all the OCs do with New England.

Says the guy who proudly displays this as your sig:

"At some places they play football - at Alabama we live it... by poisoning your trees and teabagging you!"

I think DD spoke clearly.
But unless big daddy tells CSP that he can/cannot talk to anyone who may/may not be a coach in the future I think Its an interesting idea.
Not sure its better than having a HC for all those weeks.
And NO. I hope CSP has zero comm. with the Saints during his timeout.

As much as I like DD, that sig is totally uncalled for.
