I probably should have separated the two statements. They are independent of one another.
I am happier with the results this year than years past. I would say that feeling comes from the fact that I don't think we wiffed as bad. We won't know. Most of the heartache in this thread comes from what could have been, which is rarely a fruitful exercise this time of year.
I am not one way or the other yet on keeping brees until the wheels fall off.
I am in the camp of floating out the value of a late fourth to see if the titans will let go of mettenberger. (doubtful on both sides but I would float the idea)

It's funny that so many think it is easy to get the deal you want when trading back... If we didn't trade back, it is because no one offered us anything worthwhile.
Pats have done it for a decade, Pats have been successful for a decade. We've drafted terribly for a decade. I'm going to stick with my opinion that they just didn't get the job done. Thanks though

Bro, it would've been that easy! Right?!

It's not like the chargers didnt trade down right after us.
Not sure if serious...actually yeah I am I take that back you are serious judging by the rest of your post.
So now, not sure if stupid....annnnd yeah now I am so I take that back as well. You're an imbecile.
1) Chargers didn't trade back.
2) Chargers traded UP
quote:
We could have easily dropped 5 spots minimum
Teams do not initiate "trading back" nor are they going around making calls shopping the pick. Teams call you about trading up. If we sat there making calls we wouldn't maximize our return. We didn't get a call so therefore we could not trade back.
Post less please. TIA

And you know this less than 24 hours after the 1st round of the draft?
Where do "fans" like you even come from? Why do you even bother following a team if you can't even see the positives in adding young talent to a team

Drafted terribly? We've had some hits and misses like every team, but terribly? For an entire decade?
lulz

Did anyone think that maybe, they didn't trade back because they really liked Andrus Peat?
Jesus. Teams do NOT think about "Oh we could move back and get this guy we really want". If the guy is tops in a tier and you want him, you take him, end of story.
They do not rank players like stupid draft gurus do.

Pats have been successful for a decade because they have Brady and Belichik. Last year the Pats drafted a hurt DT and a QB in the first two rounds. You would have been freaking out had we done that.
Again, look at the trades last night. Two trades. Both trades netted a fifth this year and a fifth next year. No value. People did not want to trade.
This draft simply did not lend itself to trades because there were so many players goruped together teams were not willing to give up any real picks to move around.

Yeah, so easy. Just like we were going to easily draft Dorsett in the 2nd round as well...except he went in the 1st to the Colts.
But yeah, it's just so easy. Glad you know what every single team's draft board looks like.

Breesus quit pretending like you have all the answers and any other opinion outside of yours is automatically considered dumb. Some of the shite you say is highly unintelligent and has no facts to back up any of your points.
You attacking Breesus is hilarious considering you have looked like a hysterical jackass this entire thread. Here's a fun tip...just don't watch the draft and you won't be so miserable.

Pats have had some incredibly shitty drafts over the years. Like two years ago they were getting blasted for their inconsistent drafting.

Great! You play Madden and win fantasy football leagues. You're right. You don't need anything broken down for you other than maybe you need to get out more.

I don't understand how you can argue against that unless you don't grasp the point of the draft.
Here's the answer. People shite their pants when a team doesn't draft a skill player or a high profile name. 90% of this board probably didn't know who Peat was until last night so therefore he must suck. I think both picks are money and there are still plenty of great players available. I'm happy with where we are.

sports illustrated ran a similar article in which we were rated poorly. Funny thing is our scouts are probably one of the best at finding diamonds in the rough, just not good at the elite level

the fact that you guys keep lumping tackles and guards into this OL label is unreal. You did not draft a need in Peat, jesus.

Yeah it was lots of fun seeing Bryce Harris get smoked when Armstead and Strief (both tackles) missed playing time due to injury.

The people who think "we could definitely trade back and still get the same players" think they know more and are way smarter than they actually are. They may not realize it, but they are in practical terms saying that they could have predicted the future. In reality there is no way to know how the draft would have unfolded if we traded or if the players the front office apparently wanted would have been there if we traded back. There is no way to know how the saints' front office or the other teams valued the players we picked.
Even more importantly there is no valid way to give the picks a proper evaluation. We won't really know how good or bad these picks are for likely a few years. That's the way the draft works.
