Surprisingly, the Saints defense is the 2nd best NFC playoff team in terms of points allowed for this upcoming post-season.

The only team higher is the 49ers that just gave up 27 points to a 3rd string QB on a bad St Louis team.

I've been critical of this defense as of late, but seeing as they opened the season with Green Bay, they've given up only 19.8 ppg outside of that game this season.

It may be ugly. It may drive the Saints' fans crazy in how bad it can look sometimes, but this defense is actually not as bad it may seem.

they have allowed fewer points than they did back in 2009(only two points fewer) They weren't getting any turnovers earlier in the year, but lately, they have started to come up with some. Sure, it is not at the pace that we were spoiled off of in 2009, but consider this, as a team we only scored 37 more points than we did in 2009. The defensive touchdowns dropped off but the offense has picked up the slack and then some.

The offense is operating at a level we haven't seen before and because the defense doesn't make the flashy plays that it did in 2009, it gets bashed.

The Saints have also allowed a few scores in garbage time when we weren't trying our hardest and had the victories sealed up. Due to our high scoring offense other teams in the second half just don't move the ball well against us.

The Saints D this year has done really well in making big plays or big stops at crucial times during the games. It's hard on the nervous system to watch these guys, but overall, a good compliment to the Saints offense.

Between the 30's they are nearly unbearable to watch. But they tighten it up when it matters.

What really scares me in the playoffs is that defense. If things get close and we need a stop to either score or win the game I'm not sure how much we can trust them. I'm not scared of any opponent, though.
