Mates, we're staying at the Hotel Alexander (through Hotwire - why pay $280 when you can pay $119?) and probably having brunch at Milktooth - eager to try their famous bloody marys with the raw oyster on top.

OpenTabled a late-ish dinner at Cerulean on Saturday night - looks like Indy is starting to pop with locally sourced restaurants and upscale spots for craft cocktails. Platt 99 (in house libations spot within the Alexander) will probably do for a round, but anxious to try Libertine as well after dinner.

Libertine: above. Cerulean for dinner: below

Any other suggestions are welcome - doesn't look like there's a ton of options pregame, just the typical "everybody wearing jerseys and drinking $8 Bud Lights" around the stadium - We'll probably opt instead for a go-cup bloody mary and a stroll around some of the more interesting hotels and buildings around downtown Indy. VisitIndy.com shows some cool walking tours of the city - the "Canal Walk" in particular looks decent: I might bring some sativa to smoke pregame so that I can cap myself at 2 or 3 cocktails for Sunday - going to face a 5 hour drive back to Milwaukee that evening and don't want to be too sloshed.

quote:

Go technology-free and just explore Downtown Indy. The Canal Walk, stretching north through White River state Park to 11th Street, serves the Downtown community as a waterside promenade for walkers, runners and bikers. Along the way, check out the beautiful sculptures and landscaping, as well as outdoor gardens near the Eiteljorg Museum.

I'm going to do my patented "wait until 90 minutes before kickoff to snag seats behind Saints bench on SeatGeek for cheap". Probably going to rock my new low-crowned Saints on-field cap that Matty Ice was sporting last night (obviously he was rocking the Falcons version) but it's still a good look for the game (I keep my bill flat, though).

Hope to see some fellow diehard ST'ers in Indiana next weekend.

Yeah - I'm very excited. Brunch has definitely become my favorite meal of the week - nothing better than getting lazily shitfaced on great bloody marys, unhealthy and rich food, and then watching football all fricking day long

I really wish that Accno and his nephew Randall were heading to this game - it would be awesome for us to compile a joint diary about our trip and all the goings on leading up to the game.

Ticket prices are starting to fall - even so I was shocked at how high the good seats initially were.

Last week at this time to be lower level behind Saints bench was $400 per ducat

Now there's a few pairs on Stubhub and SeatGeek for $200 or so per ducat. Better but still way too high - this is a 2-4 Indianapolis Colts team, not the Patriots at Gillette for God's sake.

Anyhow, I likely won't pull the trigger until game morning - would like to get closer to the field than normal as AK hasn't sat terribly close at an NFL game before - last year at the Bears / Saints tilt we were club level behind the bench but too far up to see /hear the hits. This go round I'd like to be about 15 rows up on the Saints sideline so she can see her fantasy players (Cooks and Forbath) and also feel the action.

ETA: My Saints low crown fitted sideline cap came in - it looks way better than the goofy Kaepernick high crown flatbill that I had previously. That was awful.

You may want to get the breast cancer version of the saints cap, instead.

I'm guessing you are hoping to stick around downtown? You made some pretty solid choices food and drink wise. Would definitely suggest doing the canal walk if the weather is nice. The start of it is surrounded by a bunch of the museums. There is also a cultural trail right off of the canal (and all around downtown) that you can walk through a lot of places. Very bike friendly city (with rentals all over the cultural trail) with Indy being super flat.

Cerulean is really good. If you head to Fountain Square, there are a some other great food places (Bluebeard is excellent, a ton more, Indy has a good food scene). There is also a cool meadery called New Day if you want cider/mead. Closer to downtown (technically in downtown) is Mass Ave., which has a bunch of good food and bars. Slippery Noodle Inn is a blues bar that is close to the stadium. It is also a good time.

ETA: Doubt I go because of work-related stuff but am going to monitor prices and might head over if I get enough done and tickets are cheap. Was actually in NOLA for the Atlanta game last Thursday and had to skip out for work-related stuff as well (hurt with good tickets available, too).

I haven't had that hairstyle for at least 2.5 years. I cut mine back when Tom Brady cut his.

Mate we saw Bluebeard but I can't remember if it's too far away from the Alexander or if they weren't on Open Table or what. Slippery Noodle Inn seems like a fun place - maybe I'll check that out as well. Yeah, just going to have a boozy pregame walk along the river - main goal is to mostly avoid the jersey crowd until 25 minutes or so before kickoff.

BTW from my previous experience in Indy (the Thursday night kickoff game) the Colts fans are friendly but annoying. fricking EVERY SINGLE ONE of them wears one of the shitty $45 silk screened white trash jerseys tucked into their ill fitting jeans and is clutching an $8 (now $11 I"m sure) Bud light in their meaty fists
