Why? Safeties cover more ground, and a ballhawking one is worth one is priceless.

Byrd is exactly what this defense is missing, a ball hawking safety. Lewis is our #1 and while having he and Talib would have been beastly, it's overkill when you can grab a top rated CB in the draft for relatively cheap.

The safety we just paid had more interceptions in 3 years than 3 other starting safeties combined in that same span

Both are pretty much the best at their positions.
Byrd is the highest paid safety.
Talib wouldn't be the highest paid corner.

Getting Talib would have been nice, but the QB still has to decide to through your way. When you're a FS it's harder for a QB to avoid you.

I had a feeling. Hopefully those playoff memories of our loser safeties screwing us are long gone.

We have our #1 corner in Lewis, no sense in paying for another. A free safety we did not have and now we do.

Yeah Denver is going to be a pain in this arse. Idk if they get Ware now that they got Talib though

NFLN made it sound like Ware is still expecting to be paid handsomely so perhaps not...tho Denver appears to be the favorite

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Not that I feel like Ware will break the bank, but, that would be two big hauls. But, that same logic would rule us out as well.

Slightly less than what I thought(at least $10m per).

Looking more and more like a few corners could still be in our range.

more talking value than need. CBs usually get paid more than safeties

I believe we can still get Ware. Anything is possible!

I'd rather sign a vet olineman and draft a corner. There's some good ones this year.

Right, obviously the corner market is higher as evidenced by Revis. But i was referring to value to the current saints team.

I don't think we have a shot at ware. I honestly don't want any more money tied into the defense unless it's an affordable CB. The o line looks atrocious right now.

Bingo. Detillier called it on the radio awhile back when he said top rated safety will be cheaper to acquire than a FA top rated CB, which he thinks we're more likely to draft.

IMO, we really need to still address whether through draft or FA:
#2 CB
C
RT whether we resign Strief or not.
WR
