The fans should be the ones pissed about rookies getting so much money. That ties up cap space that could be used on proven vets that teams could either keep or bring in the right pieces of a puzzle. Instead they lock up unproven players that don't pan out the majority of the time with their rookie contracts. arse backwards.

The next CBA will also be a tug-of-war over cap money. While the owners want to keep the percentage where it is, the union is demanding a larger percentage of revenue to go toward the salary cap. Not all the players in the union are equal. The ones that put the most fans in the seats hold the most power and those are the ones who don't give a shite how much the rookies are getting b/c they know they are getting their money regardless.

The top QB's in the league such as Manning and Brady do not want such a cap. Jamarcus Russell and Matt Ryan getting paid a shite ton of money gives them more fuel to demand more when its time for their next contract negotiation.
FWIW JR makes more than every NFL player except Big Ben and Peyton.
How Brady and Manning might not care, but there are a lot of guys who do. There are plenty of veterans who see their cash getting sucked away by huge rookie contracts.
The Player's Union is going to be a bit more ambivalent about this than you might think.

I thought it was pretty telling the way that Payton looked when asked about him too. He was a pissed off mofo. Saying that Ellis "needs to be out there right now" getting lots of reps.
Makes me wonder if the Saints are going to Jamarcus his arse and make him sit out the entire season just about for missing the vital stages of training camp (for the rookies).

well, WWL who has Jim Henderson, who is "In" with the organization.. stated today that he was told that Ellis would be signed within the next 24hrs..
I have been hearing the same thing. I have seen nothing from any other news source that said that he wouldn't be signed today. I'm croosing my fingers cause he needs to get into camp so he can start week 1.

I'm not worried about it. The Saints usually get their people signed and in camp within a reasonable period of time. Because of this, I doubt it's the Saints holding up negotiations.
At any rate, Ellis has to sign to get paid... so there's no motivation for him to hold out for a prolonged period of time.
The deal will get done, just like it always does.

I guess since Tom Benson owns the fox station .... that doesn't qualify them for being "in" with the organization either.... OKAY! If fox said something wasn't close, they were given reason to say that.
