Reggie has been punished by exactly zero people or institutions. USC has clearly received the majority of blame/punishment.

I agree. I think it's quite hypocritical for the money hungry NCAA to punish the kids who make them that money for trying to reap some of the benefits.
Hold on a second. They are given a full scholarship with housing. This is a significant payment
Come on, you know college football players bring in a lot more money than just that. Most major programs bring in millions. It would be interesting to see what USC brings in with their size. These are not kids, they are grown adults and are providing their school with a ton of money and a lot of older people nice jobs.

So what do you think his punishment should be? Jail? Fines in the NFL? Ban him from the NFL?

Good god frickers get off your high horse. You think Patrick Peterson hasn't taken money from someone. Gtfo. Reggie won the award on the field. He took money off of it. The NCAA football program is a joke. From the bcs to the bowl money to schools. "but he got free housing and education" and isn't allowed to hold a job and has to deal with the expectations of professional athletes while going to school. Yeah Reggie cheated but frick off if you think everyone of our major athletes haven't. It's part of world of professional athletes we live in today.

None of the above. All I did was state a fact. Ask a non-saint USC fan who took the bullet and u think they will say Reggie?
If he took money from people in college then he should pay them back but now that he has settled with Lake thats a nonissue. Now that the Heisman is out the way we can concentrate on NFL.

if reggie has to give back his trophy, why didn't O.J. Simpson have to give his back?? his crimes were A LOT more severe than what reggie did

no you were just acting bitchy.
But to get this thread back on track, you were also guilty of not being able to make a distinction between things happened during a college career that violated the Trusts rules, and something that happened decades later.

ok its cool, sorry for being a 'bitch'... but the point i'm trying to get across is, if they don't want someone like reggie to represent their elite club, why is it OK for O.J. Simpson??

if they don't want someone like reggie to represent their elite club,
A) they never said it wasn't. Reggie gave the damn thing back himself.
B) It's not about representing the "elite club", it's that he wasn't eligible to win the damn thing.

I think you're missing my point man
Posted on 9/15/10 at 9:38 am to Mr. Hangover
No I got your point, trust me when I say your not the first person to compare Reggie and OJs Heisman situation.
Hell your not even one of the first hundred thousand to make that comparison.

Great, so without a scintilla of proof beyond the vain speculations of your mind, you diss the character of Peterson. Guilty until proven innocent, eh? You don't know and I don't know, but to presume is inexcusable.
As far as Bush goes, what he did was wrong ... but look who enabled (if not outright arranged it/pressured Bush to engage in it) the whole blasted thing: his own parents. I thought the old man was gonna make it up to the podium to accept Reggie's Heisman the night the award was awarded. He resembled a d*mn predatory shark that night.
What 17-18 kid is going to go against his parents in a matter like this? Yep, he should have gone to his coaches at USC, but do you think PC, Kiffin, et.al., back then wanted to know about it? That aside, could you have gone against the wishes of your parents age age 17 or 18?
Ah, sure, we're all a noble, character-filled lot 'til we're in the circumstance ourselves.
All of that aside, what Reggie did was wrong, but he had adults who knew a whole lot better - his own parents, if not others at USC as well - benefiting from it too. That to me is the most despicable part of all.
Reggie's instinct in not laying his soul bare to the NCAA may have had something to do with protecting his parents ... or not, I dunno. But I do know he didn't live in that house and benefit from all the goodies by himself. I also note that at least up to this point, ESPN and others seem disinclined to ask and discuss the rest of the story.
Like Desmond Howard said yesterday afternoon, the whole of the Bush/USC story has yet to be known. Reggie was wrong, but he had lots of "adult supervision" in his wrongdoing.
