While many want to make out this loss to be some kind of death blow to the Saints championship hopes, people need to take a deep breath and look at this game as it was.

People need to remember what the Saints were missing this game:

1) Colston, Sproles, and a fully healthy Graham.

2) Our OL is struggling and Evans is still hurt, and that is clear. This OL clearly lacks leadership and it is clear that Kromer's replacement isn't even 1/10th of the OL coach he is.

3) Defensively, Saints were missing 2 of their top 3 safeties and the 3rd was hurt multiple times throughout the game, and it is clear the backups aren't that good. I hope this game makes people realize how important M. Jenkins is to this defense's success.

4) Payton has and will continue to make idiotic calls at times. With most "genius" coaches, they are notorious for their WTF moments. Payton has his share and for everything great he brings, these are some of the few flaws he will continue to have occur. Deal with it.

5) This team has 2 losses on the road to two AFC teams. It's clear that they are better at home, but they are still undefeated in conference which is important in tie break scenarios.

6) Seattle is overrated, but a good team and their HFA is very overrated as well. I lived there and have been in that stadium. It's great, but not impossible to win there.

San Francisco is good, but don't let their current resurgence fool you. They've beaten no teams that currently have a winning record for their current 5 game win streak.

That said, there are clear concerns with this team and Carolina is clearly going to be a tough out and is only 1 game back, but I think they'll turn it around.

We will find out about Carolina and San Fran very soon. The saints are still in control of their own destiny and after 8 games that is what you want. If someone said by week 9 the saints would be 6-2 at the beginning of the year I think everyone on this board would have taken it. Suck it up pussies and come join me in the dome next week and help me make as much noise as possible

while we play both these teams in the very near future... I know what game I want to watch as I prepare for SNF next Sunday... and that's the Panthers @ 49ers game

kickoff for that game is 3:05 our time... I'll have to keep in touch on my phone as I make my way into the Dome

It's going to come down to the tie-breaker against Seattle I think. I really see these teams having parallel seasons, they are both hitting their slumps about the same time. I think they lose 2 more games this season and one is to us.

I'd rather us lose our games like this in the regular season and start to peak at the end. That's what you want heading into the playoffs

This thread is nothing but excuses and rationalizing away the success of other teams. Seems kind of pathetic, IMHO

What's your explanation for surviving Tampa at home?

It's called being realistic. It's the NFL and the Jets aren't a bad team. They simply had a bad week.

Seattle is a very good team, but not as good as many make them out to be.

Same goes for SF, but SF has 1 win against a team with a winning record and 2 blowout losses to an 8-1 team and a 5 win team at home. Saints have lost to a 5 win team and 7-2 team both on the road and by a combined 9 points.

That isn't to say they aren't great teams, but they aren't head and shoulders above anyone right now. Seattle could've easily lost to an 0-7 team at home today.

SF is going to be a much different team with manningham, Crabtree, and Aldon smith back.

No team has a better running game, and the defense is getting healthy and will be a top 3 defense.

And the Saints will be a very different team with Colston, Sproles, a healthy Graham, Malcolm Jenkins, Harper, a healthy Evans, and so forth and so forth.

Injuries are hindering the top 3 teams in the NFC right now in Seattle, SF, and NO.

Again, the Saints lost 2 games on the road by a combined 9 points with injuries and other issues.

They didn't get beat by 26 on the road and 20 at home to 2 of the 3 teams with winning records they played.

2) Our OL is struggling

this is a legit concern considering some of the teams we still have to face this year... 49ers.. Panthers (twice)... Seahawks.

that is a good point for the most part. Jenkins has played a lot better this year. I thought Rafael Bush took some terrible angles out there today.

but let's be real... the run defense was awful.

I thought the LB's were slow to the ball for the most part and other times, the D-line weren't keeping them clean.

How in the hell can you allow them to run it on us like that when they have NO frickING PASSING GAME to speak of??? Unbelievable.

Geno Smith sucks arse yet there we were falling for the gimmick plays here and there and when it was obvious that running was there best option, we had a hard time stopping it.

I know that this was a road game and all but the Jets aren't even close to the caliber of teams we will need to knock off to get in position to win the NFC and get our shot at the whole thing again.

I think we'll get right back up and win next Sunday night but down the road... some of our opponents are big matchup problems IMO (Seattle, SF).

While I agree that Jenkins and Harper are missed, especially in run support, how do you back up this statement? Geno Smith was 8/19 for 115 yards and 44 of those came on one quick screen to the outside WR. Bush has played very well in Harper's absence and Abdul-Quddus hasn't done anything wrong.

I get the optimism, but that one particular statement was more of an excuse to me.

they took some pathetic angles on the outside runs. They can't do what jenkins or harper can do in the box

Bush had a terrible game today. Probably his worst as a Saint. Quddus only played a few snaps

I'm not saying he played great today, but he has done very well filling in for Harper through the last few weeks. Maybe playing alongside Jenkins helped him out. Either way, I think saying that our backups are not good is a very blind statement.

Both Bush and IAQ were horrible in run support and it definitely showed today. It hurt the team. The Jets didn't pass much because they didn't need to.

I do remember Bush taking a bad angle on Ivory's 52 yard run, but everyone on the defense was bad today. Lofton missed a few tackles that sprung Ivory for more yards.

I don't think either of them are starter quality, but they are decent back ups, in my opinion.

Everyone has injuries..winners find a way to win.

Pisspoor playcalling from a seasoned coach? A seasoned quarterback goes from 5 TD passes to 3 interceptions, and using all the timeouts in the first quarter? A lackluster team with a rookie quarterback whips us like a red-headed stepchild?

The teams we are going to meet are much better than the Jets will ever be and they are going to clean our clock. In fact, if we were to beat Carolina, Dallas, or Seattle...instead of just wondering, I will believe completely that the NFL is as real as the WWE.

To me the difference comes down to Drew. He was harassed and was off all game. He was throwing behind guys And under-throwing. I hope it was the pressure but he typically doesn't do great in cold weather. Hell I'm afraid of getting to the Super Bowl b/c it's in NY
