It was a prevent defense it just looked like one as that got no pressure on QB but they cant do that with front anyway

The best time to play prevent is in a situation like this. Alex Smith wasn't managing the clock well at all. So you give up 15 - 20 yards and the time expires...

Now prevent with 2+ minutes to go is a great way to prevent victory!

Only thing Prevent about that defense was the fact that it prevented us from winning.

They gained 18 yards on the 1st 2 plays in prevent. i'm guessing that's part of the reason we then brought pressure.

I don't really have a problem with the pressure. I have a problem with playing man behind it. Vernon davis had been a matchup issue all day, and as far receiving threats you had crabtree and davis, and that was about it. Gore was going to get the dumpoffs down the field and that was fine by me. Let them waste time with the dumpoffs and attempt the fg. Maybe we would have lost in OT but it we'll never know.

That's the great thing about hindsight, you can always be right.

Maybe not you, but rest assured, if we stayed in that D and Gore caught 4 passes and maybe 1 or 2 more short, 8 yard type passes to WRs, and SF gets a 40 yard FG by throwing short passes and driving down the field easily, then wins in OT, this board is in an uproar because Gregg Williams played prevent.

This is the dumbest thing I've seen on here in a long time. And that's saying something

would you rather a field goal and try to win it in overtime or let them beat you with a touchdown??

A field goal.

Can you guarantee they would have only got a FG in prevent?

There's the difference, and like I said, hindsight.

you are right, we don't know that they wouldn't have scored a td anyway. my point is that by selling out on the blitz and playing man you allowe them to go up top and exploit a matchup that they had been exploiting all day.
