Right. Pete was hired by Payton at the request of Brees since Pete worked with Brees in San Diego. Payton was always the offensive game planner & play caller. Despite having the title of OC, Pete was nothing more than a glorified QB coach & assistant to Payton.

WTF Are You Actually Talking About?

It actually is the perfect example of the Peter Principle.

Give it a simple Google search if it’s outside of your comfort zone.

Saying he was a scapegoat would imply that he wasn't bad, which he was bad.

He was a great coach and a decent dude. He was happy with his role and got talked into being a coordinator. He should have never been out in the position. I wish him well.

Pete just wasn’t the source of the problems. He added to it at times sure, but the second half of the season we did improve offensively.

Taking half a season to improve is an indictment. The last game was really the only one where the offense was good the whole game. Even the Tampa win we did nothing in the second half. The other games against good/alright teams we got some catch up stats but didn't compete in the first half. Bears, Panthers, and Giants games we dominated but the offense didn't.

He was (probably pretty well) paid to do better at a job than he did.

So as to the issue of any owing to be reconciled, Pete should be happy things are like they are.

He always seemed to be in over his head.
