Our defense in 2010 was actually pretty damn good. Less yards and points, but also less opportunistic compared to 2011. I believe we were 4th in total defense for the 2010 season.

Good point I forgot about that.

How is Ryan going to be the DC when he interviews Friday and UGA Todd Grantham interviews Thursday. Am I missing something because this doesn't sound like a done to me.

Would be funny if this turned out to be a multiple page bitch fest for nothing.

we actaully started to play bad on defense after the bye week that year. When we played Seattle at home that year, they hit a lot of big plays and really moved the ball with ease for the most part. That rematch in ATL was the best effort by the defense after the bye.

but I know what you mean for the most part. I'll never forget how well the D played in that Pittsburgh game on Halloween. Our secondary was depleted with injuries but they still held the Steelers to just 10 points.

Is that a joke? Common man he coached for the Dallas Cowboys, the yearly preseason Super Bowl favorites who are led by the great Tony Romo and the rest of that potent offense!

The last half of this thread has had a lot of good discussion. It's not all bitching.

oh yeah, totally forgot about those cowboys man. Romo was such a clutch QB in fantasy football this year, especially with that blazing start to the season

You're right, though, this will be the first time Ryan has an offense like this on his team. Then again, not many DCs get that opportunity outside of NOLA, Green Bay, New England, etc.

This will not guarantee him success in N.O. The last 3 D coordinators had the same methodical offense and each was run off. You have to produce a quality defense or you are out.

our defense wasn't all that great in the Super Bowl season. Look up the statistics.

the thing that really made the difference was all of the turnovers they got and they made a handful really count by running them back for scores.

doesn't it have to be an improvement from last season?

Amen! I know you cant duplicate Darren Sharper.. but the front office has to find a player/players with instincts and ball-skills to play in our secondary. Ed Reed is a pipe dream but someone has to be available to come in and elevate the level of play in the back 4. Along with a decent pass rush and the change into the 3-4, things can turn around very quickly with a few key elements being added to the equation and this defense could look light years better from 2012

This year's draft and free agency are going to be as important as whoever the DC is. We need people to get after the QB, people who can re-learn to tackle, people who can cover, and someone who can do his best Sharper impersonation.

I am not thrilled about Ryan but I do think he can whip some of the slackers in shape. Who knows, they have interviews set up for Thur and Fri. In Payton I trust.

absolutely. I mean Gary Gibbs must have felt pretty shitty when the Saints went out and got Sharper and Jabari Greer in free agency after he was fired. He had players like Josh Bullocks and Kevin Kaesviharn as safeties. And he had guys like Jason David at cornerback.

totally.

We need a shake up at safety, bad.

they were better in a lot of ways, I knew what you meant. As far as yardage went, that was our best defense easily in the last several years. And I think we were in the Top 10 in scoring defense too.

In 2011 Dallas was really medicore on defense, ranking 14th in yards allowed and 16th in points allowed per game.

We do that with our offense and its playoffs, and superbowl.

there is my positivity.
