Finally.
That's some damn good numbers. Morstead's extension just about covered the first year hit.
I couldn't check the link but does he have any performance bonuses built in? Otherwise I wonder why they called it a $10 mil deal (unless they talked him down from that).
Edit:
Morstead saved $2.2 mil, not $2.5 like I was thinking.

Here's the whole article...
Alex Okafor signed a two-year deal with the Saints worth $6.787 million. The contract came with a $1.5 million signing bonus, which is the only guaranteed money. The Saints should have around $7 million in cap space remaining after the signing.
The contract breaks down as follows:
2018
Base salary: $850,000
Roster bonus: $662,500
Signing bonus: $750,000
Workout bonus: $50,000
Cap number: $2.312 million
2019
Base salary: $1.7 million
Roster bonus: $1.925 million
Signing bonus: $750,000
Workout bonus: $100,000
Cap number: $4.475 million

Yeah that's crazy. No performance incentives? Less than the reported $10 mil.
So basically a one year, $3 mil contract (adding in his guaranteed signing bonus next year) that could become a two year deal if he plays well.
Just hope he comes back to at least 90% of what he was last year.
Edit:
We should have about $5.7 mil in space accounting for the rookie pool/top 51 rule, but $7.7 mil in actual space.
Edit2:
Forgot otc still isn't counting the $3 mil Fairley credit, so the $7 mil reported is correct but doesn't account for the rookie pool.
So to sign Suh would likely just take a Jordan restructure which saves another $5.7 mil, putting us right around $13.5 mil under (assuming the Suh deal is at least two years and slightly backloaded).

Really wish Kelemete wanted to stay. I'm sure we would have made room for only $4 mil.

I think Coleman is gonna be signed for minimum too, the wr free agency crop is huge and guys won't be paid.

How are you getting 7.2 mil?
Using overthecap...we had 2.317 mil in cap space. Okafor's cap # (2.312 mil), Morstead's extension (2.2 mil), & Fairley's credit (3 mil) aren't factored in yet.

Coleman and perhaps Breaux also as his market hasn't heated up.
As long as no one else sniff's around Snead that just means we resign Line and/or Kuhn, maybe one more FA WR (or perhaps wait and see how the draft unfolds), and hope Suh picks us and then roll on to the draft.

Signing Suh is very possible. I'm hopeful he's waiting for benson's funeral to be done before announcing anything, just because Loomis, Payton, et al are busy.
I'm just glad in all of this we're losing no one of importance. The team improved and ideally health is on our side this year.

I jacked up and we actually have about half a mil more (damn top 51 rule).
Otc says we have $2.3 mil. This accounts for the effective rookie pool (about $2 mil). If you look at spotrac they have us with $2 mil more than otc at $4.3 mil (or maybe they counted Fairley also and have us at $7.3 mil; been a minute since I checked them).
So $2.3 mil + $2.2 mil (Morstead savings) - $1.8 mil (Okafor - player he replaces which was at half a mil) + $3 mil (Fairley's credit) = $5.7 mil.
If you add back in the rookie pool money they take out, we are at $7.7 mil.
Edit:
Yeah spotrac has us at $7.3 mil. They are counting Fairley's credit, but not the rookie pool, and they still haven't updated Morstead's contract (or Okafor's for that matter).
So starting from there we add Morstead and subtract Okafor and it puts us at $7.7 mil. Adding in the rookie pool drops it to $5.7 mil.

Yea, I'd be cool with signing Coleman & Breaux for cheap. Maulet needs someone to compete with in the pre-season for that #5 CB spot. I'd also take Robert Ayers if the price is right.
Hopefully we can make these moves before the draft
Suh
2 F.A. WR's
Zach Line
Josh LeRibeus
Jonathan Freeny

Yeah I wouldn't mind LeRibeus or Freeny for depth. They should be vet minimum players (as well as Kuhn, Line, Coleman, and maybe Breaux).
None of these guys would take much cap (about $200k each at most).
We currently have 73 players signed and 8 picks which would put us at 81. We normally sign at least 10ish UDFAs so we are likely waiting until after the draft before tinkering with all of this.
Didn't realize we'd be that close to 90 if we kept all of our picks.

If you can bring back Coleman, Snead, and Breaux, that will be huge for this team. Make a big splash with Suh or another FA DT/DE and a WR, then you set yourself very nice in the draft to take BPA or a TE and build additional depth in other spots.
