we need safeties, but you don't use a 1st on one

safeties are cheap if you can evaluate DBs

especially when we have a bigger need at a MUCH more important position (rush LB)

Junior & Victor are more capable as rush backers than Jenkins & Harper are as Safeties

1st rounders should always be QBs, standout LTs, and pass rushers(DEs, OLBs depending on system) and the occasional cb.

Guards, RBs, TEs, LBs and safeties are day 2 picks.

I don't even like the pick but this is false. Very false.
Reid's bigger, faster, stronger and played on a better D against better teams.

If you can find me one reputable mock draft with Reid going ahead of Vaccaro...

True, a good NT for a 34 is worth his weight in gold.

Eric Reid was an abortion last year. The Peach Bowl was full of lulz.

Still don't like the Vaccaro pick tho.

To be fair, the 49ers probably felt the need to trade up in large part because the Saints took a S at 15.

Nevertheless, it is a moot point. Payton just said that they had two guys on their board that they wanted, and since those guys were still available, they did not want to trade back.

He wouldn't say...but he said they were waiting on their two with 2 pick still to go and the two other teams picked "other players". So, Star wasn't in the mix.

The obvious guess is Jarvis Jones.
