I really like the pickup. I'm not expecting to come in and give us 10 sacks, but he's the exact kind of depth you need when switching to a new system. He could be the next Galette after a few years in the system

between him and Reddick I see Vilma's odds of staying diminishing significantly. Hell, we could see a lotta LB overhaul. Herring, Chamberlain, Humber, & Austin Johnson all need to up the ante to keep roster spots from these younger, faster, & cheaper players.

He was a great pickup, but dont get your hopes up. Every team passed on him 7 times (theoretically). Whether teams made the correct decision to pass on him is still to be seen. I normally dont get very excited about UDFA pick ups because odds are they will not be major contributors.

I am impressed with what I see from his highlight videos.

I don't think that it's fair to say he was "passed on 7 times by every team." That's a little simplistic. Teams have their boards of needs and tend to focus more on those players. He could have just gotten lost in the shuffle. I'm sure that happens to a ton of guys. You just can't focus on everyone

I can't copy and paste Twitter at work but he tweeted, "#whoDatnation isn't ready for the #partyinthebackfield, but I am"

I think it's safe to say a lot of us are more than ready for some pass rush.

On passing downs I'd love to see Galette, Wilson, Butler, and Thomas on the field at the LB spots. Boss mode engage

I'm excited as hell about this signing. His 40 time is poor, but his 20 yd ss shows he has great quickness. He appears to have been a great leader with Stanford, something I believe our d could use. He appears to be bright, and must have benefitted from being coached by fangio. Add to that, probably has a chip on his shoulder from being passed up. Is he the next Demarcus Ware? No, but I think he can be a solid contributor.

When did this become a Jason Collins thread?

Anyway, I am fired up that we were able to sign him.

I honestly don't see most of them staying. Maybe we keep one for veteran depth but maybe not even that.

I think Vilma likely stays and if he does it's him and Smith's last year(unless the rookies all bust out and they come back for vet minimum next year). But Vilma is no lock either, imo.

He's being compared to Connor Barwin per nfl.com.

Let's hope.

Melvin. Shanle was probably the Saints best linebacker for the last five years. Besides Lofton & Vilma can you name another linebacker for the Saints? p.s.Hopefully Vilma will be cut soon, along with Harper!!!!
