Since you keep side stepping the actually discussion I'll ask again. Where would you rank these guys in terms of scheme fit? Or just in general what do you think of each guy?

Also, who is out there at SS(not FS) that is a better box safety than Harper? Certainly no one on the team already and I see no better ones in FA. Maybe if we draft someone he will become expendable.

I agree he is overpaid, but you save the most by cutting Smith, and until someone shows the Harper cut numbers, it seems you would save more by cutting Vilma.

Just because you think someone will take a cut doesn't mean they will. They haven't yet and time is running short. If none of them take a cut(or enough of one), it's obvious Smith and Vilma will be the two released.

I doubt it since some of us on this board have been debating this for like 2 weeks and I've always been making the exact same point.

I'll answer this even though it has nothing to do with what I'm saying. I think Vilma doesn't fit at all. Too small, too slow.

I think Harper may be a good fit, but that's assuming Ryan uses him the way everyone is saying.

I think Will Smith is the best fit. I don't think he should start over Hicks and Jordan, but I think people are looking the wrong things when judging how he would fit. Yes he often went wide on his rush, but he wouldn't do that in this defense unless it was some kind of stunt or something with the OLB coming inside.

But in my opinion, Will Smith is a big, strong guy and has a good bull rush. These are traits that could be useful in his transition to a 3-4 DE. Plus, he played this position plenty under Gregg Williams, and he played some DT last year, which also transitions well to playing 3-4 DE.

That's not really the point. It's a hypothetical situation looking at all the options. But, what if they draft Vaccaro? You have this guy who is potentially better than Harper, but they are screwed because if they release Harper now, they take that entire cap hit because they already released Vilma and Smith.

Harper and Vilma would save the same amount if released. Both would save 6 mil.

For the however many times I've already said this, I never said they will take the cut. I never said to you what I think they should do or will do. Again, all I'm doing is throwing out a bunch of different options.
