yes it is, both are redundant.
A better example might be to say NCAA Association Champs.
Is there a title "Association Champion"? No.
But there is a "Conference Champion." And the Saints are the "Conference Champion." In the NFC.

That would be Division champs
Correct. Which is why the Saints shirt disambiguates.

Technically, so were the Cowboys, Vikings, and Cardinals.
Now that is incorrect. They bwere chapions of their respective divisions, but not the entire conference.

The truth in the statement depends on how you parse "They're champions of the National Football Conference."

I guess I'm slow but at first glance I didn't see anything wrong w/ the shirt.

Maybe tech. But there is no need for it. There is no other kind of champion of the NFC.
I am in a tediously picky mood tonight.

No I wasn't. I felt like my post was all jumbled and confusing, whereas his was much more clear. We were both saying the same thing, he was just doing a better job at it.

However, if you're going for what the shirt MEANS to say, it's horribly wrong.
I disagree. The statement emphasizes that we won the conference.

And that's very true, too. But from a semantics standpoint, you can, however redundant, say that the Saints are the conference champions of the NFC and still be correct.
Oh God... thinking makes the brain hurt.

It doesn't get the point across very well does it?

Yes, In Baseball LSU was the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association Champions.

This sentence is correct. If you say the Saints are the Conference Champions of the NFC that is different than saying they are the NFC Conference Champions.

The Cowboys, Vikings and Cardinals are not NFC or even NFC Conference Champs. They are respectively NFC East, North and West Division Champs. In the case of the Saints and Colts, you need the modifier NFC of AFC to distinguish which South Division they are champs of.

That doesn't make them "Association Champions" any more than it makes them "Athletic Champions"--as a title, at least.

No, it's not. Those phrases mean the exact same thing, as long as you understand that the words "NFC" and "Conference" are both separately modifying "Champions" and that "NFC" is NOT modifying "Conference."

The Cardinals are in the NFC, and they were champions, therefore they are technically champions of the NFC, although they are not NFC Conference Champions. In high school, I was the Latin Club President, and I am an American citizen, therefore at one time I was actually a president of America.... one of the many.
