According to Mike Reiss and the NFLs press release, that 4th round pick has officially been forfeiting and the Pats no longer own it since the trade is official and can't trade it again

pats can acquire a higher 4th and that would restore 118, but can't use 118 to trade unless they acquire a higher pick by other means

I'm a little dense.

So the Pats wanted our 4th because they were going to lose theirs?

They needed to gain a 4th in order to have 1, due to the deflategate punishment.

Now I'm mad. You don't throw away a 4th round pick to help a buddy out when you need your picks. Giving them Cooks for a 1st and 3rd was fair enough, don't throw away one of our picks just because.

It wasn't just because. Giving them our fourth allows them to keep their own, rather than lose it. Now they have a pick in the 4th round which they didn't before the trade. That's worth something.

Not what happened at all

Really? Because that's not what the trade was at all. You're overvaluing Cooks. We're not trading Dez or Odell here....

Because what? It was part of the trade deal. They wanted a 4th and the player for the 1st and 3rd. Period. No matter their reasoning. The forfeited pick has no bearing on the deal. What they did with that pick is their business. Who gives a frick? We used it in a trade deal to get a 1st and 3rd. You're too simple minded.....

We traded a player that we drafted in the 1st round with the 20th pick for a 32 pick which is essentially a 2nd rounder. He has already proven himself at this level. So essentially we got a 2nd and a third and gave up a player we traded up to get to give him away for a lesser value 1st round selection you know the last pick in the round. Fuking terrible trade and helping the pats out by gifting them a 4th is just retarded, this front office must be democrat

Except for that whole 5th year option. But don't let a silly thing like facts get in the way.

I prefer pick 33 because it's essentially a first rounder

Second rounders don't have 5th year options. It's a HUGE difference.

That's why every year you have teams trying to trade up to get those last few picks.

32 is prime real estate because it's last chance territory. And if you don't trade it you get a player with a 5th year option.

I won't trade for a 62nd pick cause its really a stupid 3rd round pick fwiw.

So you're confirming exactly what he said then?

You point is correct, just not in this instance this board is pretty bad at posting days off info, or stuff that's been posted 100 times

I don't post much during the season on game days for that very reason. Same thing occurs on busy days like free agency opening or the draft as well. Oh well

I wish this would stop popping up in threads about the trade. It's a truly pessimistic and simple minded way of looking at it, especially when the 5th year option bonus has been mentioned numerous times.
