Michael Heldman a steal? YT film review

This is a good breakdown of Heldman's game and just how good he played. He does seem to break from assignment at times, but his instincts shine. It's one game against scrubs, so we still must check our excitement. With that said, this could be a great UDFA signing.

He looks like he could have an impact as a pass-rush specialist early on, but has some work to do against the run. I’ve noticed (in practices and the preseason game) if the OL gets hands on him, the play is often over for him. A season in a NFL strength and conditioning program would probably do him a lot of good.
I liked him a lot heading into the Draft and was hoping we’d take him in the 6th/7th round, but we lucked out and got him undrafted.

The play where he is trying to knock Heldman for "doing his own thing" Heldman literally played it by the book.
Don't rush yourself out of the play. Check.
Avoid engaging unless you need to set the gap. Check.
Read the motion of the back and flow to the ball. Check.
57 was already setting the edge and Heldman played excellent to not get sucked into a needless block, but still played the outside until he was sure the HB committed to the inside gap. Literally perfect play by him.
Edit:
Also not sure how knowledgeable the guy in the video is, but when he talked about the backside player in contrast flying in, that's because he is the backside player and is cutting off the cutback lane so the HB is forced to commit to the right side run.
The player on the run side (Heldman) should NOT be playing it the same way as his responsibility is to either set a gap or pursue, which he winds up doing both by making sure the HB doesn't bounce it, and then pursues by jumping inside.

If you look at his stats at CMU it clearly took time for him to get used to the physicality but his production went up every year. This year he can be in on pass rush situations. I think could get 3-5 sacks and then work on strength in the off-season. The guy can definitely play

Jags #61 should be selling insurance by Thursday. The running play Heldman blew up was middle school effort by that LT.
