Seems I recall hearing this last year as well. Don't see it.

I sure hope so, but if he's not it (likely) won't be for a lack of touches.

Team ran it 468 times in 2009, 431 in 2011...and 370 times in 2013.

Splitting the difference between those 2009 and 2011 numbers (450) and trading Ivory will give Mark his chances to shine...or not.

It's sink or swim time for #22.

Does the hate for Ingram stem from him going to Bama? I don't get it. He's a good back.

It seems that most Saints Talk fans only like 7th rounders, un-drafted free agent signings, and former LSU players.

The off-season blows.

Mark Sanchez is fricking awful. Mark Ingram is not fricking awful.

Apparently, half the halfbacks in the NFL last year were "fricking awful."

Mark Ingram was ranked 32 of 59 HBs by PFF.
---And 16th for running performance alone.

I wouldn't say awful. He just reminds me a more volume carry back ala Michael Turner last couple of year or Stephen Jackson. Not going to blow it up but gets yards at the end of the game.

My hope is that Payton held him back his rookie year, and that Carmicheal wasn't calling many plays for him this year.

That being said I HOPE that Payton gives him consistent touches this year. If he does and he doesn't do anything I'm on the "he's awful" bandwagon with you.

If he doesn't get the touches I start to wonder why he was drafted in the first place

Payton has says he wants more focus on the running game

We shall see

The hate stems from a couple of things....I think because he went to Bama plays a part in this, but the main reason is the Saints used yet again a 1st Round pick on an offensive player that (so far) has under-performed considerably. If you draft someone in the 1st Round, you expect that player to make an immediate impact on a team and that has not been the case for Ingram. Had the Saints drafted him in any other round, he wouldn't be getting nearly the flack he is getting now.

Yes. Some of the LSU fans here are incapable of separating College & Pro football.

Not really. With some people that is true. Others hate the fact that we traded a future first rounder to draft him and he hasn't lived up to being worth that.

I'll admit that I hated Deuce at Ole Miss! I didn't like him as a draft pick because we had Ricky Williams. Now he's one of my favorite Saints players of all time though. :csb:

I understand all that. What I don't understand is how everyone gives the player all kinds of shite for not rushing for 100 yards per game when he gets 8 fricking carries.

Ingram didn't make the decision to trade away a future 1st round pick.

It's hard for a 1st round running back to put up what most of you would consider "first round numbers" on a pass happy offense with a 4 deep backfield like we've had.

I love 98% of what Payton does but if someone needs to catch shite for 2 first round running backs that don't produce first round numbers, its him.

Love,

Reggie and Ingram

I don't think he fits the Saints system well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be a much better back if he was the primary back getting the most touches. He seems more like a guy who gets better as the game goes along. 5-10 touches a game for a 1st round pick just doesn't cut it. He has been a complete and utter waste.

To the guy above saying we hate him because he went to Bama, no. I get tired of seeing him run into the oline's arse and fall for 1-2 yards. He got a little better as the season went on last year but for a 1st rounder, he's a bust so far. Ivory has looked better than him in virtually every part of his game and yet the Saints are rumored to trying to trade him?

yeah, I totally get that.

but he has been a very hesitant runner out there in his first few years. It only seemed like he picked it up last year when Ivory started to get some playing time.

he's produced in short yardage situations but that would hardly merit a first round pick.

Ingram has been a bad pick so far. I guess you could have said the same thing for C.J. Spiller because it took him a few years before he really did anything.

but he doesn't have to share touches with 3 other backs either.

He didn't decide to get a total of 8.8 yards on those carries either. But he still does it.

I think Ingram will be a good back for us in future years. As I've posted before, it takes some bigger backs (Cedrick Benson, Thomas Jones, etc.) a few years to get with the program. I think Ingram can be that guy to step in and carry the load for a few games when Drew is having an off day (like T. Davis for Elway or AP for Favre).

I will say that I don't think it will be this year though.

Who cares. Went to Bama, must hate.

Signed, LSU/Saint tards.

The emotional hijack of Ingram on the sidelines of the MNC tells you all you need to know. There's no point of discussing Ingram with his haters here, their minds are already made up.
