Where I was headed

Malcolm Jenkins said it's refreshing to be focused simply on football this training camp. Also he said he's motivated this season considering this is a contract year and with the competition brought in with Kenny Vaccaro.

Take away all those missed tackles, blown assignments and dropped interceptions, and he's amazing.

Well yeah, if you only look at the past 4 seasons.

I still don't get why everyone assumes the competition for playing time at safety is between Vaccaro and Harper.

It's both really. He's also competing for playing time with the nickel/dime. He's that good in coverage. He's going to be all over the place.

I think all 3 players will be on the field more often than people realize...

Jenkins was completely misused last year. Spags is one of the worst defensive coordinators who has coached for the Saints in the past 20 years and it pisses me off the more I think about his coaching last year.

That being said, IMHO, Jenkins is a good player, but not great. He had a good rookie season, a decent 2nd year and then last years shite show. He has good ball skills and hustles, he just doesn't need to be responsible for half the field on every play. He was outplayed by IAQ in that role last year.

I hope RR uses him properly and we see a good rotation of Jenkins, Vaccarro, IAQ and Harper this year.

Couldn't agree more. He's not an Ed Reed type of safety. His lack of interceptions prove that. He's great in run support and a pretty good defender overall.
