It has nothing to do with a defender being at a disadvantage. It's protecting the runner, and the guy he'd be in a head collision with.

It will be very difficult to officiate accurately. And, if we use the defenseless receiver example as a model of what we can expect to see, it will be a disaster.

The game moves soooo fast that RBs will inadvertantly "lead with the crown of their helmet" quite often, IMO.

I HATE THE NFL.

STOP CHANGING THE RULES.. it is never going to look the same. they literally change a new rule every single off season now.

You're moving to a place with socialized medicine? Interesting.

So you're saying that you look at your feet when you run.

Gotcha.

Keeping your head up means seeing where you're running and what you're hitting. It's safe football while still being physical.

This rule does nothing but prohibit weaponizing your helmet.

That's not what the rule is about. But go ahead and whine like a bitch.

very true. This is what I'm a little worried about. I mean how many times has an offensive player braced himself for a hit only to end up being hit in the head by a defender. And then, boom a flag comes out. We have no way of knowing what the defender's aiming point was. I mean I'm sure he wasn't trying to draw a flag in the first place... so we can throw that out right?

and when the TV cameras put in slow motion.... it looks so much worse. Those replays do the play no real justice. Some things just can't be avoided.

I don't like this either but again I understand why they are doing it. But lets be real, there are always going to be bad calls. If we weren't bitching about this it would be something else. A pass interference, a holding penalty that had no real effect on the actual play itself, illegal contact, etc.

There is no way to sell this rule. It will be universally reviled and it should be

I will wait to see how it is called in a game, if its like the other rule changes that a player makes a great hit on a guy but gets flagged for it because some crap safety rule I will complain but if they only call it when it is obvious I will agree with it.

first glance though I hate it.
