I think that with the improved depth on the roster, we are only keeping two roster spots for QB. Last year, there was an open competition for the starting position between three QB’s. This year, the starter is secure.
Rattler and Wilson will have an intense battle for backup. I think whoever loses will get traded or not be on the team. Both are not going to last long on the practice squad. They are better than backups for some other teams.

Isn't a third QB a free roster spot?

Isn't it still the rule, that if you put someone on the practice squad to open the season, if someone else signs him off that they have to keep him on active roster all year?

I think you can put Rattler there, and nobody would sign him away; not to guarantee him the full season. Not so sure about Wilson.
