You absolutely can.

The Saints last year were good enough to win the super bowl.

You realize that they were good enough to win a superbowl because of the draft? They had a once in a lifetime draft and it payed off.

Everyone on this forum realizes that there is a short time left with Brees and IMHO when Brees is gone so is Peyton and this team gets dismantled due to Salary reasons.

There is absolutely no way we can pay all of those studs we drafted last year on their 2nd contract. If healthy, Ramczyk and Lattimore's contracts will be insane. Even from the year before with Micheal Thomas, Look with Jarvis Landry got for his 2nd contract and imagine what he will command.

You have to win now and worry about the future later. Drafting a QB this year is a mistake.

I just looked it up. Not many on the list I found. Jeff George was the only listed at 13 or under that has/had significant nfl playing time.

Vince Young scored a 6 and I would say 50 starts would qualify as significant playing time ,but that is the only one I can think of that is lower. Shockingly, JaMarcus Russell scored a 24 and that dude must have purple drank himself stupid.

An inaccurate QB better have an elite defense. Jackson's ceiling is bottom tier NFL QB. I like big guys at the bottom of Round 1. Preferably someone to get to the QB. There has never been anything sexy about picking 27 so let's try not to drink someone up. Safe pick.

I would rather win five Super Bowls with Lamar Jackson than one more with Drew Brees .. no matter what you to do what’s right for the future

You're a fricking idiot! Not only will Lamar Jackson not win 5 Super Bowls he wont win one. Give me a fricking break.

You just made my point. 2 guys, one had a nice career and the other started for roughly 3 years before being benched and losing a roster spot.

Why do I have the feeling you scored under a 13?

I wouldn't say Jeff George had a nice career. Was he good enough to be on a roster? Sure. Should he have started? Not really he was a career 58% passer who threw a ton of interceptions. He was also a locker room cancer that was a problem everywhere he went. As far a Jackson a really low wonderlic for a QB is not ideal , but with him both the wonderlic and the fact he is just doing stupid things during the draft process is leading me to believe this guy makes poor decisions.

Look at the stats. Running QBs win Super Bowls at a much lower rate.

Let me start by saying I don't know what Lamar will look like in 5 years, but neither do any of you.

The wonderlic test is a concern, but not the deciding factor. Marino scored 16, Jim Kelly Steve McNair and Terry Bradshaw were a 15, Donovan McNabb was a 14. All those guys were great QBs with a similar wonderlic. It's a factor, but not the only factor.

Running QBs may not be winning Super Bowls at the same rate as pocket passers, but it's ignorant to think they can't. Russel Wilson should have won 2, only won 1. Cam made it to the big show, so did Colin Kaepernick, both running Qbs. That's 3 of the past 8 Qbs who played in the Super Bowl over since 2013, and there has been a dual threat QB starting in four of the last 6 Super Bowl games. "But those QBs lost more often than not, and got outplayed by pocket passing QBs" Yes they did, and those QBs were usually named Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, top 3 QBs of all time.

Accuracy. Lamar Jackson never completed 60% of his passes in college. He completed 59% last year. That's 4 drops from 60%, he definitely had more than 4 dropped balls. Russel Wilson completed 58% of his passes his Junior year. Tom Brady completed 62% of his passes his Junior year, he also threw half as many TDs and the same number of INTs in 100 fewer attempts. Tom's last 2 seasons in Michigan he threw as many TDs as Jackson did his sophomore season alone. Guys can improve their passing numbers with time.

If you want to get silly with the statistical statements like you did, there have been far more pocket QBs drafted that have flamed out than running QBs that have.

Are there risks taking Lamar? Sure are. Are there risks taking any other QB at the top of the draft? Sure are. Do we have a successor to Drew? Sure don't. We almost certainly need to replace him in the next 3 years, and until we have a guy we feel confident can do that, I can't hate drafting a QB first round each season. Chances are we will miss, because most drafted QBs don't work out to be long term starters. But you have to have one to win, and we have to look at life after Drew sooner rather than later IMO.
