Alvin Kamaras don't come around very often. This young man is special. Pay him

Probably not. Does New England pay any backs? No, injuries wear them out fast. It may already be occurring with him...

He is one of the hardest players to scheme for in the league

That's due to how he is used, not necessarily superior talent to other guys around the league. I'm not trying to diminish his abilities, they are very apparent. My point is that if the Saints drafted Kareem Hunt (and he kept his nose clean) and the Jets drafted Alvin Kamara, then all of the sudden Kareem Hunt is viewed as this fantastic player that's impossible to scheme for. AK is a great all around player at the position, but he's not the only one that SP could get elite production out of. Other guys around the league are great all around backs that aren't a part of a great offense that maximizes and showcases those talents.

"A fair offer" is going to be Gurley, Zeke money. That's how it works. Why would you want to pay that? Kamara isn't some once in a lifetime player. Odds are theres a kid or three in college right now that will have a better professional career than Kamara when it's all said and done. And there's a kid in high school that will have a better career than those guys, and a kid in middle school that will have a better career than that guy. There are just too many good backs to go pay one a pile of money. Find one in the draft or the FA market every few years and pay one fair market value for the position if they want that second contract. Don't pay the Zeke/Gurley/Leveon inflated market value.

The top 5 rushing leaders in the league right now are

1. CMC
2. Nick Chubb
3. Dalvin Cook
4. Derrick Henry
5. Josh Jacobs

That's 5 guys on a rookie deal.

2018 it was:
1. Zeke
2. Saquon
3. Gurley
4. Mixon
5. Carson

that's 5 more guys on a rookie deal

You can call it a coincidence, but I see a pattern. It's a young man's position for the most part

Recent history would suggest that's not a wise move. However I don't think his price tag should be astronomical since he's not really a traditional every down back. Kamara isn't built to tote the rock 25-30 times a game and rush for 1500-2000 yards a season. He's a complimentary RB that needs to be part of a good stable of backs.

if kamara could stay healthy i would say maybe 15mil a year, but he should be happy with 8-10.

He should be happy with half of market value?

Never break the bank for a running back.

Short shelf life and easy to replace.

We have to reach a great deal for both sides and lock him up long term

I don’t know. He’s so versatile and dangerous (when healthy). Every single team in the league would like to have him.

He’s so dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield and forces defenses to pay special attention to defend him, opening up other opportunities.

I just don’t know how much we can afford to pay him. I’ll defer to the Saints management on this one.
