rotoworld-
Georgia DE/OLB Justin Houston recorded a 1.62 ten-yard split at the Scouting Combine last week.
He bested Robert Quinn, Von Miller, Ryan Kerrigan, Adrian Clayborn, Aldon Smith, J.J. Watt, and Cam Jordan -- all more highly touted players. Though still seemingly flying under the radar, Houston is yet another testament to the depth of this year's draft for pass rushers. In a normal year, Georgia's sack and tackle-for-loss leader would be discussed as a surefire top-15 pick.

fresh Walter Football mock on the bandwagon for Houston...
The Saints don't have many holes on their roster, but they could certainly use some upgrades on their defensive front. I think they'll take the best pass-rusher available.
New Orleans had its sights set on Jerry Hughes last year, but the Colts chose him before the Saints had the opportunity. Justin Houston is a similar type prospect; he can rush the passer effectively and drop into coverage.
Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:
1. Akeem Ayers or Martez Wilson, LB - The Saints have needed linebacking help for years, but they continue to ignore that area. Maybe they'll change their mind this April.
2. Muhammad Wilkerson and Corey Liuget, DT - Shaun Rogers is just a stop-gap solution at defensive tackle. The Saints need a permanent answer.

I'm high on Wilkerson, to me he is one of the safest bets in the draft. Unfortuantly, that also comes with a pretty low ceiling.

I'm kinda opposite on him, I think he has the higher developmental upside. More tools than Paea but less day one ready.
Who's your Pats anticipated pick? (not who ya want)
I'm leaning Watt, Jordan, or OT

If I had to have my feet to the fire, I'd say an OLB/DE type pick with Aldon Smith at 17 (if he falls) and Cameron Heyward at 28. I could see them going guard before OT because Neal retired, Kazcur is probably going to be released, Mankins is a messy situation, and Connolly is not a NFL quality starting guard. I could definitely see them taking Pouncy at 28 (if he's there). One guy I do see the Patriots taking is Moffit. They love the Center/Guard combos.

SI Don Banks gets on the Houston to Saints in his fresh mock HERE
The Saints need more pass rush and impact out of their front seven, and Houston put himself into first-round consideration with a strong effort at the combine. Either at outside linebacker or right end, his athleticism should upgrade New Orleans' ability to chase the ballcarrier.

I can see that. It would help Greg Williams not have to call so many blitzes

Guess people on this board aren't the only ones thinking of moving Smith over.

I think it would be the perfect transition for WS as he ages. He could be an all pro LDE.
We have enough depth to fill in even if Houston isn't a full 3 down player to start off with too.

PFT joining the JH bandwagon for Saints mock HERE
24. Saints: Justin Houston, defensive end, Georgia.
Georgia’s leader in sacks (10) and tackles for loss (18.5) last season, Houston was a consensus All-SEC first-teamer and Nagurski Award finalist behind Da’Quan Bowers. The Saints are pursuing disruptive front-seven players after their big plays on defense evaporated in 2010.

JH might have been too good at the Combine for the Saints to realistically draft him late in the 1st round.
With the Texans switching to a 3-4, he'd fit well as a Rush OLB with his size.

Justin Houston goes to Texans in mock The Houston Chronicle's Lance Zierlein sends Georgia LB/DE Justin Houston to the Texans at No. 11 overall in his latest mock draft. Zierlein has a great read on the Texans, so his opinion is worth taking into consideration. A beast of a pass rusher with incredible burst at Georgia, Houston could be moving up in the eyes of many after posting a highly impressive 1.62 ten-yard split in Indianapolis. The questions about Houston are in regard to his cover skills. There's no doubt about his rush ability. Mar 9, 2:59 PM

this is what I'm hoping will keep the 3-4 teams off him
If he grades out passable in coverage, that would greatly diminish his odds at #24.

But I think the Texans want as much pressure as possible under Wade Phillips to protect their bad defensive backfield.
With Mario Williams set to play the 3-4 DE for the first time and with Brian Cushing and DeMeco Ryans tentatively set as inside linebackers, the Texans best OLB right now it Connor Barwin who is coming back from an ankle/leg injury that cost him the season.
The Texans might not care about getting a complete OLB when they can get the best pass rushing OLB. I think Houston has boosted his stock too much for him to be available at #24.

11. Houston - Justin Houston, OLB/DE, Georgia
Z-Report Says: The first "reach" of the draft and I have that reach tied to the Texans. I will admit that this pick wouldn't be the favorite in this spot, especially with Amukamara on the board, but Houston is one of the best pure pass-rushing OLBs in this draft and has the type of explosive numbers that will catch the Texans eyes. Keep in mind that Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has coached for the Texans under Vic Fangio's 3-4 defense and has NFL ties so if he likes Justin Houston, that could help his standing with NFL teams including the Texans who are in dire need of an impact edge rusher. Is Houston stiff in coverage? Yes, however, ability to cover in space is much lower on the priority scale than rushing the passer and Houston has been a productive pass rusher in the SEC which carries some weight with NFL teams.

The thing I would like about our lineup (even not knowing who will play SAM) with Houston and Rogers being added is that our 4-3 scheme would be able to motion into a legit 3-4. Rogers has plenty of experience at NT, Smith and especially Ellis can scoot to the outside and have the skillset to play 3-4 DE, Houston obviously can play your weakside OLB, and Vilma has experience at ILB. Casillas would be new to his position but I'm sure he'd be fine. GW would have a field day.

I believe most of the top DE's will be gone before we pick...Smith Kerrigan Jordan and Clayborn.
I think our pick will be between Ayers, Houston, and if they are gone which is most possible...then Martez Wilson.
Would of course love to move down but that is slim to none this year.

agree completely on GW going crazy schematically with a Houston-type player
For Houston I would think they definitely would go Amukamara over Houston if both were on board, maybe Brandon Harris. That is a terrible backend- worse than the Saints worst in the past ten years.
