Nice for depth but they've handled the back end of roster kinda odd if you ask me

I'm more than ok with this. I was most worried about OL depth.

Well this has me worried (unless someone was sniffing around LeRibeus).
Usually they keep the cheaper player week one and then bring back the vet. Here they are doing the opposite.
So either someone is injured or someone called him about a job and the Saints didn't want to lose their emergency depth. I really hope it's the latter.
I do like the depth as he can fill in at guard, or tackle if we are really bad off there.

The only thing that irks me is keeping Gray over Jamerson/Moore, but if Gray ends up legit on ST's...they've done a fine job imo.

The jamerson situation has me aggravated for sure. I would have dumped PJ for him

I know there's more to it, but Gray had all of 2 tackles in 4 games on special teams, neither which I remember (so likely just routine tackles after the returner gained a "normal" amount of yards).
I saw Moore make a couple of really good special teams tackles.
The ONLY thing I can think is Moore wasn't working as a safety and we didn't have more room at corner. But I don't recall Gray doing anything on defense to stand out.

PJ is a better player on defense right now, and they likely wanted someone legit to backup PRob in the nickel (Maulet and Hardee are more outside corners). So I get going with him.
Honestly we kept the right CBs imo (at least for this year). It's just a shame we couldn't get our picks on the PS.

Is he that much better than you lose out on a younger corner and that rookie contract though?

I definitely did not like seeing Moore and Jamerson walk

This year in case an injury happens? Yes he is.
And believe me I'm pretty upset about losing two promising secondary players, but they would not have played this year on defense even if we did have injuries (they would have been cut for a proven vet if we needed a spot).
They are trying to win a SB this year and next. These 5th and 6th round guys weren't going to be ready in that window. We would have put them on the PS, but such is life.

Let me ask a question about moves like this.
You set the roster and you choose to cut LeRibeus and keep Edmunds.
So what is the thought pattern here.
1) You think that you are going to see more OL players on the street than RBs to choose from. So I will keep my RB thinking that OL Player X might be available and I will cut him then.
2) Is it a salary move where you have LeRibeus signed to a deal say 500K, so you cut him and then are able to resign at say 350K.
3) Do you like an respect LeRibeus so much as a player that you are giving him a chance to make another roster and maybe find himself in a better position or even a starter?

As of yesterday morning...Edmunds was the #3 RB (by default). He became expendable after Gillislee signed.
They would rather O-Line depth than a guy that just plays ST. Still doesn't explain why Gray is here though.

If you're in win now mode...yes. Losing Jamerson/Moore seems like the only mistake, but I wouldn't want either of them over PJ Williams (this year, at least).

What is the status of Peat?
Posted on 9/3/18 at 3:31 pm to VA LSU fan
That is the question that worries me. Today is likely the first day of practice (or at least a return to the facility) this week, and if Peat came in and they checked him out and didn't like something, this seems like a move they would make.
But I could also see them doing this if they were expecting to bring him back week 2, but someone tried to sign him now.
I'm REALLY hoping it's the second one.
As for why release Edmunds, it's not to do with Gillislee as Edmunds wasn't getting time on offense anyway. He's probably the safest guy (him or Gray) to cut and bring back later when the roster stabilizes in a couple of weeks.

Also, Jonathan Williams signing with the PS basically makes him the backup to Gillislee. If Gillislee gets injured...they most likely call up Williams from the PS.
