Via Curtis Crabtree of KJR radio and PFT, Cable said that Graham is committed to learning to block. Which means that he doesn’t really know how to block. Which means he doesn’t really block.

The day Jimmy Graham throws a real block, is the day I know the Saints blew the trade. Yeah, that day will never come.

Expected this 100%. I knew the second he was traded he would gain a chip on his shoulder and try to become a better player (something I think would never have happened had he stayed in NO). That's fine. we were never going to get that out of him so we lose on nothing. With the pick we got for his selfish arse We took the LB who will push his arse in the dirt in coverage next time we play. No worries. Block away.

i don't see how he can more productive in that offense than he was here.

I'm talking about catching passes. Remains to be seen if he can become a good blocker.

He'll probably score his fair share of TD's up there but his days of racking up yearly numbers like

85- 1,150 -12

are done. Forget about it.

It's like dating the lazy girlfriend who's slowly getting chubby, you dump her and suddenly she's got a firecracker up her arse to get into shape. Would've never happened if ya stayed with her

Jimmy is already raking up 10 million a year, so don't expect him to be putting extra time on the practice field. His big payday has come already. We saw his effort last year, after the check got cached. I admire Sean for seeing the light and getting good value for him. An pro-bowl center in his prime and a possible future team captain of our defense. Not to mention taking on Graham's salary.

Not to mention the sure-fire future injuries.

Despite the "He's soft" label, I was always kind of glad Jimmy wasn't used that much to block when Gronk was having all of his surgeries.

Hell, we'd line Jimmy out wide, far away from any interior traffic, and Jimmy still ended up limping.

Good luck with that, Seattle.

He'd be an idiot to not be committed to learning to block.

Why would he not want to better himself and his game?

Agree, completely. That's always the wild card when a player with a high ceiling is traded or cut. The personal motivation factor is something that can't be measured or predicted.

We definitely couldn't get much more out of him. Now, he's with a tough-minded team that plays physical. Jimmy will have to follow suit if he wants to survive there.

All the players on that defense know he's "soft" and avoids physicality, so they will challenge him and -- he'll get tougher and grow as a player. But as mentioned, we could never have gotten this from him - so it's best that we got a top-level center and drafted a linebacker with the pick (both huge needs!)

The thing I wonder with Graham as a blocker, is that he seems to have a propensity to get nagging injuries with the limited contact he does take as a receiver. I expect him to be very battered and hobbled.

He's going to still do incredible things with Seattle because he's a gifted talent and he's got a mobile QB that is incredibly accurate. It might sting to see, but we had a nice ride with him and turned him into a couple of needed pieces and also freed up desperately needed cap space.
