Veteran tight end Jimmy Graham surprised nearly everyone in the football world when he signed with the New Orleans Saints this week.

The 36-year-old last played for the Bears in 2021 and many believed that he was more likely to retire than to sign a new deal.
Graham was dominant in his first five NFL seasons with the Saints, including an All-Pro year in 2013 that saw him lead the league in touchdowns with 16.

If Graham can be productive, his contract will be a massive bargain for the Saints. New information has emerged on the terms of the tight end's deal, and Graham won't be taking up a significant portiGraham's salary for 2023 is the veteran's minimum of $1.3 million, according to WWLTV Sports' Brooke Kirchhofer.

Graham qualifies for the league's veteran minimum benefit, so his contract will only could as $1.09 million against the cap.

Graham's last game as a Saint came nearly a decade ago, but the team clearly believes he can add something to their offense. We'll see just how much when the Saints take the field this season.on of the cap.

Instead, Graham is returning to where his professional career started - and where he blossomed into one of the game's best at his position.

Kind of freaked me out when they signed him but the staff claims he showed up in tip top shape. At 6'7" if he has retained even 80% of his skills he can be a presence in a very young Saints T.E. room. and help us in the red zone.??
For little money.

liklihood he doesn't make the roster and gets cut, aka "retires" after training camp...

Many vets go out this way...

Nice swan song for Jimmy if so.

Don't see where he exactly "fits" and eats up a roster spot as the 3rd TE

Seems to me the saints need that te3 to be a blocking guy more than receiver

He wasn't on a roster last year at all. I doubt he has enough left to make the roster much less see the field.

He was a load to cover in one on ones particularly in the opponents end of the field. If he isn't able to contribute I don't see him eating up a roster spot either. I find it kind of a waste to have Taysom in that group but maybe I'm missing something.

Wonder if he's also being primed to be that vet they could call in mid-season to fill in if there are a rash of injuries in the TE room.

He can probably give us 3 or 4 good games if we have injuries at TE.
Probably won't make the team, but will be on speed dial

Saints TE Situation:

Taysom is Taysom - his position is SAK - Swiss Army Knife - but he will line up at TE a few times a game as a receiver.

Juwan Johnson is a lock at TE #1

Foster Moreau's health sounds great so i would put him as a a very strong yes as TE #2

#3 TE - Jimmy or Jessie James? - I'd pick a healthy and motivated JG anyday. If he can still dunk over the crossbar at 36, he is a legit red zone threat. Keep him.
