So I broke down each play were Kupp was on the field this year vs when he wasn't/when he was hurt (injured in Week 10 vs Seattle).

One note I tracked for this exercise: Kupp lined up in the slot nearly 50% of the time.

Here are Goff's stats this season...

With Kupp on the field for the play
Comp%: 71%
Yards per att: 9.9
Passer Rating: 115

With Kupp NOT on the field for the play/injured (includes last week's playoff game)
Comp%: 60%
Yards per att: 7.2
Passer Rating: 89

-Since Week 11, Goff's Passer Rating is 83. This is 26th in the NFL... Between Week 1-10 he had a Passer Rating of 113 (5th in the NFL).

-The first time the Saints played the Rams, PJ Williams was the primary DB in coverage on Kupp. He allowed 4 catches on 5 targets for 48 yards (Apple was in coverage on Kupp's 41 yard TD).

-Another number I tracked in this review: Kupp was in on 60% of the Ram's run plays this season. This number isn't very important, but wanted to share since I tracked it. Thought it would be a bit more important when I began...

During the regular season, the Saints offense featured more personnel variation than any unit in the league. They scored touchdowns out of 13 different personnel groups, two more than any team. (The Rams, who they’ll face this weekend, finished tied for last with three.)

It seemed like Robert Woods was better with Kupp as well. You'd think Woods would get more targets with Kupp out, but Woods seemed to have less room to get open after Kupp was injured. Perhaps he was drawing better coverage.

Yeah I think people are vastly underestimating what losing Kupp meant to them.

I did a breakdown of Cooks with and without Kupp (by game, not by play), and Kupp also made a HUGE difference in what looks Cooks gets and his production per game.

He is akin to what Ginn is for us in the sense that he opens things up for others if they focus on him, or he has a big game if they double Thomas and Kamara all game.

Reynolds is nowhere near that level of threat and has far less production in more snaps. He can be taken out singlehandedly by pretty much anyone we choose to cove him with.

On the flipside we have Ginn returning for the rematch, while they have Talib. Imo this basically offsets and I think you see us with a lot of guys running open.

They key will be our Oline giving Brees time to find those open players. If they can do that I doubt the Rams keep up this time.

Edit:
Found the Cooks' stats:

I don't know how much it affected their 3rd down %, but it had a huge affect on Cooks.

Taking out the first Sea and the Den game (both got hurt in Sea and Kupp in Den):

Cooks with Kupp:
6 games
42 catches (7 per game)
666 yards (111 per game)
15.9 ypc
2 TDs (0.33 per game)

Cooks without Kupp:
8 games
36 catches (4.5 per game)
485 yards (60.625 per game)
13.5 ypc
3 TDs (0.375 per game).

2.5 fewer catches per game is a good bit, and his yards per game are nearly cut in half.

Edit2:
The reason I took out those two games are because Kupp played 55% and 38% of the snaps, so he played in both games but not the whole game and I don't have the stats for Cooks from before and after Kupp went down.

He definitely was to a degree, but not as much as Cooks was. Cooks took a much harder fall because he now has to run stuff Kupp was almost exclusively instead of trading out depending on how the defense was playing them.

He also draws a lot more doubles since they have no other deep threat. Kupp helped them keep that balance.

Awesome. This type of stuff is the main reason I frequent this board. Seriously great work
