I see what you are saying, but that is a widely-used falsehood. Relative value cannot be applied when the purchasing power of the dollar is unchanged. $12k is worth the value of $12k. You can go on a nice trip with $12k; about the only trip you can go on for $120 is a one way flight to Albuquerque on a Southwest deal flight and live under an overpass.
