I'm still wondering what is up with Butler if the Pats want to let him go. They usually don't let healthy players that are good walk.

So, are doctors telling them something or do they think his game is falling off?

Especially with Logon Ryan now gone. Butler is saying the Pats have not even contacting him about signing.

I want to keep Cooks.

They want to resign Butler. That narrative is false

they don't "want to let him go" they tendered him a good offer but he hasn't signed it because he wants more money, as I think everyone knows, the patriots don't do that, they pay players cheap and when they want to get paid they try to move them to another team for draft picks or trades.

they are in no rush to let him go but cooks is worth it "if" he will work out a deal with new Orleans, but first he must sign the offer the pats tendered him with. i am sure that is the hold up on the trade at this point.

if the trade doesn't happen I think the pats work definitely out a deal with him rather then get into a situation where he decides to sit out a year

are you serious, wherever you heard that it is total BS

maybe he should talk to his agent because they tendered him an offer weeks ago, that is all they can do, its up to him to sign or not sign, they cant sign the contract for him lol

EDIT - if you are talking about the saints, they cant talk to him until he signs the tender allowing the pats to have the right to work out a deal for trading him so the pats can allow the saints to contact him because as of now he is still a restricted FA

He hasn't signed it yet because there is (an unrealistic) chance someone gives him an offer he can bring to the Pats to match or decline.

In the end he will end up signing it and playing with the Pats.

This just isn't true. They literally just gave out a big money contract to another CB.

What they won't do is give someone more than they think they are worth. But they have big time paid several players throughout the years.

As for the OP questions, I wouldn't take 18 or Butler straight up for Cooks but if I had to choose it would be the proven Butler over a crapshoot draft pick.

I think Cooks is most likely staying.

After Logan bounced I think those talks died down and I'm guessing they don't want to offer that 5th pick up.

This is not true. As a RFA he has the right to talk to teams about a contract, and then if offered bring that back to the Pats who match or decline.

It this specific case we wouldn't make an official offer, just talk numbers, he signs the tender, and then gets traded.

Cooks is the one that can't talk to other teams for 2 years.

I said this from jump and got shite for it.

Unless a team blows us away with an offer we will just keep him because we were never shopping him. Other teams asked for him.

That said someone can still give us that can't refuse offer at any point, but if he does get traded I see it happening right before or during the draft.

I was for it because of the deep defensive class, especially since we didn't address another CB.

However, with him, Ginn, Thomas and Snead and now a more stable line with Warford, we will look unstoppable.

CB and DE were still our most needed and we didn't attempt either in FA, which is concerning

I was never really for or against it. My only question was what will it be for.

If it was a great deal then send him packaging. If not then frick you other teams we're keeping him.

So far the closest thing I've liked that is even semi legit is Butler and 32 for Cooks and 42, but that doesn't blow me away.

The pool of 10 extra players to pick from is nice, and getting a fifth year option is really good, and we could use a proven CB.

On the other hand having that guy that can take the top off or bust a screen or slant for a big one is nice. It would stagnate our offense to lose him (though Ginn can somewhat help in that department now that we have him).

But having two deep threats REALLY stretches the field. See 2009.

I don't think it was Cooks for 18.

More like Cooks and our 3rd for 18
