I’m fine with Adams this year but next year he’s making $36 million

He will be 32 and you have to pay Olave and Shaheed on offense plus Adebo and Alonte Taylor on defense very soon. I would love to have him this season so Olave can play the #2 WR role that I believe he will excel in and Shaheed can be the 3rd WR/deep threat while having Adams as a true big bodied #1 WR. Then again you have to ask yourself if adding Adams is just sliding you back 10 spots in the next draft going from a top 10-15 pick to a pick in the 20s. This will be all about compensation in trade and Adams either having to rework his deal or the Saints cut him after the season. I’m not giving a 2nd and I really would have to think about a 3rd. If we can get him for a 4th this year and 4th next year though I say go for it.

None of his next two years have at guaranteed money at all, making it easy to work around

I think he’ll end up going for a 3rd or 4th. If teams were offering better than that he’d already be traded.

Yeah. Olave and Sheed are WRs you build around.
Next years draft you get a #1 WR and build the Oline with another piece through free agency.

You don’t build around number 2 WRs on expensive non rookie contracts. If we still need a number 1 WR, then Olave isn’t that important a piece.
I suspect Olave is going to have a career reminiscent of Brandon Cooks. Very good career stats. Plays for a bunch of teams. Doesn’t really make a difference for any of them.

When that’s what you have. Yeah. You absolutely build around Olave.
Olave is a fringe #1. Throw in another “Thomas “ and your WR core is elite.
