Yes, because coordinators were able to do that on such a regular basis throughout his college career
The NFL is a completely different animal than the college game. There is no guarantee his skills will translate, and the two biggest factors working against him are his size and his immaturity.

I'm sure you could say the same about the transition from the high school to college game. All Mathieu did as a freshman in a prime time game was wreak havoc on North Carolina.
Again, his size didn't deter his play in either of his first two record setting college seasons. He may be "immature" but I don't see how it's any worse than many current NFL players. Look at Daquan Bowers carrying a damn gun into an airport. Or Plaxico Burris shooting himself. Or Donte Stallworth who ran over and killed someone.
You guys are getting pretty damn creative with finding ways to diminish the dude and act like a Heisman finalist isn't worth a 3rd or 4th round pick. Think about that.

Don't feed the troll. Just get ready cuz HB7 might be coming home.

At no point did I say we should avoid Mathieu. If he's going to get a chance to succeed in the NFL, I would like to be the team that gives him a shot. He can be a special player.
All I am saying is that his size may be a hindrance at the next level.

you could say it was luck the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th time.
But the 13th, 14th, and 15th+ time? I think he is making his own luck. The strip and score against Kentucky was one of the headiest and impressive plays I have ever seen. The punt returns against UGA showed that he has absolutely incredible control over his body in space. I guess the Saints were just lucky in 2009 to force turnovers with Sharper? Honey Badger's big plays almost always came when the game was on the line. He's a clutch performer who elevates the play of everyone around him with his constant awareness (cleaned up Claiborne's mess against UGA from 30 yards away)

terrible corners don't win the bednarik award, aren't consensus all-americans, and aren't heisman finalists. Either way, at worst he can be a special teams super star. He has 3 ways to positively impact this team: Corner, Safety, and Special Teams. He will excel nickle or safety in the NFL IMO. Players with his ball skill are very, very rare

quote:it was incredible to watch. I've never seen anything like it. Ed Reed has done it for years in the pros but even he doesn't have the timing of HB7 (granted in college) like you said, it is always with the game on the line. Kid is a stud and I would go crazy if the saints pick him. He is the only player that could have me rooting for LSU and posting on the rant.

I'm all for it as well. The kid just has natural playmaking ability. The Saints need defenders who can force turnovers and create havoc.

people are being brain dead on the potential he has as nickle/Safety for the Saints. He would instantly be the best tackler in our secondery and could replace anyone but greer. He would make cutting harper even more reasonable

I'm a LSU Fan....
So I know I would be excited to have him on my team.
But honest question..
If he becomes a Falcon.......would you guys hate him more for his transgressions at LSU or "be happy he's doing well in the NFL...just as long as it isnt against the Saints"
I'd root for him on the Saints (except against the Falcons). But I hope he's a Falcon.

I think that he will do well in the NFL. As a player, I think that he would be perfect for the Saints. Unfortunately, from an OFF the field standpoint, I think the Saints would be the worst team for him. He needs to get away from the idiots that he runs with. NFL money + staying in NOLA could be a disaster for this guy.

why would I hate him more for his transgressions at LSU? He doesn't get to decide where he is drafted.
I'll root against him b/c he's a dirty bird, but it is easy to separate LSU vs. Saints fandom

Unless he's playing a certain team in Crimson.

If Atlanta drafts TM7 - I instantly stop being a Falcon fan.
Fact.
Fact.

He had one bad game against a great team.

Then you weren't really a fan to begin with unless of course you're not being serious
