Sorry, I knew not what I did. I meant selfless.

I think we should take this to the money board.

So you want to let Brees, our best player and one of the best players in the NFL, walk this offseason? How much better would we be then? How many games would we have won this season without Drew Brees? Why aren't you mad at overpaid guys like Harper and Smith who could take a pay cut to bring in better players? For that matter, why aren't you upset at all the players for taking pay cuts to bring in better players?

they are all playing like shite but only one makes more than all of them put together damn near

Probably because he's the best player on our team. Has set team and career records. Franchise Quarterbacks get franchise money. He's earned every penny of it. Do you want Bobby Joe Hobert again? How about Heath Shuler? For fricks sake!!!

If that pay cut kept me over 80 million dollars on my contract/ over 10 million a year and my company would benefit and we could win the world title at whatever we did. And i had tons of other money form sponsors and my own investments.

Yeah, i would.
Even if your worth was clearly MUCH higher at your job in your previous 5 year deal?

Wasn't Brees asking for $23mil and the Saints originally offering $18mil? That's about $50mil or so over the length of the contract. You can add a few generations of Brees's who can live off of that.

It's real easy for fans to say they would turn down millions of dollars because they would already have millions of dollars. But put yourself in that situation, and it's not nearly as simple.

You could also not win a world title then you gave up tens of millions of dollars for something you don't obtain.

i just don't get the thought that players should always put the team ahead of themselves in contract talks. When do teams ever put make a sacrifice for a player?

I just love the notion that someone can think that the other 31 teams didn't want Brees, but the 32nd team gave him $60million

If the Saints were the only team interested, at no point did it dawn on that poster that, hey, maybe they would have offered him a minimum contract and not $60mil LOL.
